Lady Gertrude is the overseer/leader of the Altz tribe, who live in the mountains just outside of the cold deserts called The Nowhere Lands of Hemshire. Most live in solitude and study philosophy, and some of them take in and teach those who seek their wisdom.
This tribe is relevant in politics and occasionally advise leaders with difficult moral decisions.
