I find myself at a lack for words to describe how brilliantly simple this is. You're very good at pixel art. You know that right?

@The_Adjudicator with most utter respect thanks but you know that sadly nothing comes from my imagination
Some other very talented person thought of this and drawn it
I just scrolled through pinterest thought it looked neat and gave it my best try at redrawing..
I know it still took time and effort in it but its not my drawing im just simply gave it a try and it is definitely neither your problem nor your fault but compliments especially well thought like yours make me feel like an imposter ~-~

(there is a reason why nearly ever drawing has # reference # pinterest in the caption :| )

@Sandman_02
I get what you're saying. Imposter syndrome is real, and I have a little bit of it as well. Likewise, I put (reference used) in the description whenever I copy something, or use a reference for detail, to remix and repose.

Truth is, very few artists are able to make a masterpiece without references. I'm sure most, if not all of histories greatest artists learned by copying scenes from their own culture and environment.
Maybe someday, your practice here will lead you to greatness.

@The_Adjudicator I mean Im pretty sure that I have imposter syndrome but in this case it actually has nothing to do with it. I draw stuff yeah but it's not my stuff, I find it on the internet think it looks neat and basically "copy" it, how well of a job I did is another story and probably not for me to decide but even if I copy it 10000% and it looks identical it's still not mine, it's still just a copy...

Sandman_02

23 Jan, 2024, 9:17 am

@The_Adjudicator that is my problem... Nothing is mine so if I get a compliment like yours even if you mean it, it just feels wrong bc even tho I took time and put effort in it, it still kinda feels stolen. You get what I mean, it's something different if I put it in my own style (which I don't have) or if it's like a real Pic or an animal or something like that (that's the reason I don't feel that way about my Gyutaro & Daki drawing) , but I directly search for pixel art or other art and then try to copy it...

Sandman_02

23 Jan, 2024, 9:20 am

@The_Adjudicator Yeah I also put #reference #pinterest in my description so it's more transparent but it's in every drawing bc every drawing is just reference and not that I did my own thing and at 1 point I needed to look up what a hand looked like so I have a helping point, no every single bit is justme trying to copy the complete Pic and oh boy pixel art is even worse bc "normal" drawings require a bit of skill but pixel art, I have to find the right color and need to count the pixel... That's it...

Sandman_02

23 Jan, 2024, 9:23 am

@The_Adjudicator So Pixel art compliments feel even worse and more wrong.
I don't want masterpiece I just want something on my own, something that is me, something that screams yeah Sandy did that, my own style or a own scenerio... Something anything...
I hope so...
I hope that someday I either have my own style, am good at realism or at least can copy art styles and with that I can create my own scenario (like tek1207) for example
But thanks anyways and sorry for the long response :}

@Sandman_02
You'll find your niche in time. Perhaps instead of thnking that you're being complimented for originality, you're being complimented fot your ability to work with your hands. You've gotten a lot of practice copying by sight at this point, but perhaps it might be time to try copying by memory. Do you think you can try a with/without reference side-by-side comparison? First, decide on something you like, then try to recreate it by memory. After, use a reference to compare.

Practice like this may help you stretch your memory. You could also DTIYS something. Try to recreate it with a little spin of your own imagination, such as adding embellishment or changing color and proportions. It may or may not turn out right at first, but that's an important part of the learning process. If a toddler tried to stand up and walk for the first time, you wouldn't scold the child for falling, or being "unoriginal" by doing what someone else mastered first.

You'd be happy they tried in the first place.

In art classes, you aren't expected to create original masterpieces, but are encouraged to use references and try to copy it as best you can. That's how I got my footing, and how I learned. Eventually, things began to click into place, and I was able to start rfining my own style. Taking requests helped a lot by DTIYS'ing other people's OC's. Perhaps you could try taking requests?

@The_Adjudicator I mean yes I draw since I'm 10 so 11 - 12 years by now, so yeah I gained a little bit of skills, I was not trying to say Im really really bad at drawing but for 11 - 12 years there should be more, if you get what I mean...
Nah I tried that several times, if I use a reference a good drawing can come out of it, if I don't use 1 suddenly a 6 year old can draw better then me, I don't really know why but as soon as I can see what to draw a stick figure is the best I can do...
I always wondert what DTIYS is
Yeah I get what you mean but like I said I tried it many many maaany times (I mean I was one of them kids that drew while class and our school days where long so yeah)
In art class I had the same problems and then my art teachers weren't happy bc they saw I could draw so I imagine they were angry with me bc they thought I wouldn't really try.
I will try to internalize what you said but my experience from says that sadly won't work.
I would love to take request the problem is if it doesn't interest me I can't do it and then people might think "if you won't actually do our requests why even bother asking" and feel "fooled".

@The_Adjudicator And just to be clear I never wanted to be Picasso or something like that I just want to be either really good or at least can create stuff on my own bc that is like the only hobby I really have and I spend over a decade into this hobby so I want to be "rewarded" for that if you get what I mean.
And a problem of mine is that I compare myself to other.
In school when I say people with "less experience" then me draw so much better it k*lled me inside bc just once I wanted to be good in something or maybe even better.
Maybe it's an attention and self value thing....

Sorry you are trying to help me and I'm just talking all negatviely
I might not sound appreciative and it's probably not easy to try to help me but thanks anyways.
I really do appreciate it ^^

@Sandman_02
Fair enough. I won't push it any further. You have talent, and you're free to exercise it how you see fit.
I still remember feeling inadequate when I compared myself to other artists. I still feel a bit inadequate when I compare myself to other more talented artists here like acchan, Twarda, or fuu-min. They are some of the many artists here who inspired me to stretch myself, and keep improving.

Oh, and one last thing. I was 21 years old when I first started here.
