I know Giovanni's not the nicest guy, but I think he left maybe because he truly loved Silver and didn't want him to be involved with anything he was dealing with. But Silver instead became a bundle of angst and hate, it took Gold and Crystal's influence to mend Silver's heart and make him see the light.
