Emerald was completely effected and it made her psychotic. She always talks like she's insane. And when the scientists run tests on her, they have to put her in a straightjacket as she yells at them crazily. Then afterwards, they lock her rings in laser chains so she can't escape. The only sane part of her is her is right eye, infinitely crying.
