I enjoyed watching your speedpaint process ! -^w^- I just love the colors, shading, and lighting that you use, it makes the painting look more lively ! ( idk how else to explain it xD ) Shading and adding lighting to clothes has always been somewhat of a struggle for me ! Do you hav any art tips for that if you do ? :3

With this piece, I tried something a little different... I was going for a more realistic approach, so I made the lineart a lot more subtle (almost lineless)... I also added more soft shading than I normally would.

I guess it really just depends on what style you're going for... If you want a little more realistic style like you see here, I would advise you to think more in 3D.

It's all about getting into the right mindset and figuring out how to execute your drawing. That's easier for some than it is for others. If you study art a lot, it probably comes almost naturally. If you don't...then it might be easier to practice a lot.

And by practice, I mean drawing by reference. No cutting corners. Draw it exactly how you see it.

With clothing in particular, it's important to remember that fabric absorbs light, so shading will typically be softer and more - hmm - spread out? It's hard to explain it in non-scientific terms... But hopefully that makes sense.

@Vi0-R0CKST4R- I study a lot. But that only gets me so far. I imagine I could be a whole heck of a lot better if I just took the time to practice and reinforce what I know. But I'm a "draw what I want, draw when I want" type of guy. And that really is my tragedy.

The Wooper was a last minute detail. I originally didn't plan to have him in the picture, but I thought he looked cute clinging to Rika like that, so I kept it. Rika should grab her baby before he falls, though.

And no joke!? There's Rika merch now!? I know there's a trainer card with her on it! Is there more!?

Oh, and another thing: Since clothing is more densely packed when wrinkled, light won't be able to pass through it much. Which will create heavier shading like the kind you see in this art.

@Natnade Well, to start with, I'd recommend studying one thing in particular, especially if you're a beginner. First, think about what you'd like to draw, and then devote yourself to learning how to draw it. I'd also recommend that you start with learning something less detailed... Perhaps an apple or a can or something? Something with a simple shape and texture...

Think about what you can do to make your drawing look like that apple or can... If your imagination is good, you could even paint a picture of it in your mind, step by step. But, if your imagination is poor, I'd recommend that you practice drawing it instead, on an actual canvas or a sheet of paper.

Always think: "What can I do to make my art look like this?" And if your drawing doesn't look like the reference, try something else. Try whatever you can that you think will help you reach your goal.

Watching the playbacks of your favorite artists helps too. Watch how they draw things, what tools they use, how they try to convey their art through lines, colors, texture, composition, etc... Always keep an open mind.

And, of course, you can also learn through books or your favorite YT channels, if you so choose.

Yep ! I think it's just a preorder for now but I noticed on meccha japan that there were lil paldea mascot plushies for some of the characters and one of them was Rika ! I think there was a glass with her too , but not too sure ! c:
