Inside the outer ring are the two rings used to calculate chords. Notice how each spot has a square [four sided] piece and a triangular piece. The square is the main piece, the triangle is a supplement. The square pieces touch at the corners and create a zig-zagging super ring. Chords are made by starting on either the outer, or inner of these rings, and zig-zagging in a clockwise direction.
