Musical Window by Aaron Leonard

The design of this window is a musical chord calculator. Each colored piece represents a musical note. red: A, red-orange: A#, orange: B, yellow-orange: C, yellow: C#, yellow-green: D, green: D#, blue-green: E, blue: F, blue ******: F#, ******: G, and red-******: G#. The outermost colored ring repeats the 12 notes in a clockwise direction through 7 octaves, and has pointed tips on the sharps/flats.

Inside the outer ring are the two rings used to calculate chords. Notice how each spot has a square [four sided] piece and a triangular piece. The square is the main piece, the triangle is a supplement. The square pieces touch at the corners and create a zig-zagging super ring. Chords are made by starting on either the outer, or inner of these rings, and zig-zagging in a clockwise direction.

Here are some patterns. Major: outer- square, square, square. minor: inner- square, square, square. Augmented: outer- square, square, triangle. diminished: inner- square, square, triangle. Maj7: outer- square, square, square, square. min7: inner- square, square, square, square. Dom7: outer- square, square, square, triangle. minMaj7: inner- square, square, square, triangle.
