The tale of the willow maid is a tragic one - a forest nymph of a willow tree is approached by a man who wishes to take her as his bride. Though she constantly refuses his advances, he eventually tries to take her by force in hopes he can persuade her otherwise, cutting down her tree to take her out of the forest.
