Artist of the week FAQ:

Been getting a lot of questions lately so I'll use this post to answer people's questions.

How do I become artist of the week?

I may contact you through the email you have connected to your colors account, through a discord dm if you are a member of our official server( this is my preferred method), and through an old painting of yours where I will @ mention you and then delete my comment later since I like keeping the announcement secret or I will @ mention you on one of my old paintings to ask if you are interested.

What if I don't see the your email/message in time? Did I miss my chance?

I'll move on to the next person. But don't worry that doesn't mean you missed your chance to be the artist of the week. You will have to get in contact with me and we can feature you in the future. However this does mean that since artist of the week is weekly I have to line up a lot of interviews ahead of time so you may be moved to the back of the interview que. I agreed to be featured as artist of the week. When do I get interviewed?

Once you have agreed to be featured it greatly depends on how many people I already have lined up. Since artist of the week is weekly I need to set up a lot of interviews ahead of time so I may contact you a week or more in advance and once it's close to your interview time I will let you know at least 5 days early so you know to look out for a message from me between the weekend and early into your interview week.

What if I'm not interested or can't do it at the time?

No worries. If you're not interested or can't do it for some other reason just let me know and you can also recommend someone else I can consider in your place. This is greatly appreciated. If you ever change your mind or find a a good time for an interview please feel free to contact me again so we can work to set that up!( I will list my contact methods below).

How to contact me?

You can reply back to me via the email, through the Colors Gallery via mentioning me with @-zyik- or posting a painting with the #heyzyik tag, my forum post, and through discord at colorslive.com/discord. My disord is zyik#7307 so don't be shy about a dm! <b>Discord is my preferred method afterall.</b>

Since you do everything ahead of time, will anything change if the planned artist of the week announces that they're artist of the week before you guys do?

i have an idea for a weekly challenge :D
because the new Legend of Zelda game is coming out, maybe you could do a theme on that?

Can i report a bug?
(so when i play a video at the end it doesn't show it the same as the painting and it confuses me like did i look at it wrong? so im asking nicely to fix it plz)

@-ST4R- Likely not happening due to private chat making things harder to moderate and Colors having the majority of its audience being minors means we have to watchout for groomers and the like in order to keep the community safe.

@HappyPlayerFunPlayer Should be up now. However keep in mind I do have to make things fair for other users that may want their tags featured so I may swap one out for a different one occasionally( typically I'll do this if a tag has been featured for a good while or if a contest tag is ending soon).

Is there any way you could make a paid, updated version of Colors Live for devices other than the Switch (ie Android)? I cant get the Switch, but I personally would be willing to pay the same price as I would for a Nintendo game for an Android version. And I know a few other Colors devotees who would likely do the same. I understand if this isn't possible, it would just be really nice. Thank you for your time. :)

@Roxyvero Did your drawing ever show up? Sometimes it takes a sec for things to show due to the cache having to update. 1.13 made it that the cache updates every time you reboot the app so try that too!

@KiraFaye04 The switch version is the main focus atm but the plan is further down the line Colors Live will beverly likely ported to mobile after the switch version is more feature-rich and mature.

Also @Roxyvero bug finder is rewarded to people who post a bug in tech support with the instructions on how to replicate the bug and when the bug is able to be replicated by the team(replicating a bug is key to being able to fix it).

@warren- It's algorithm based so I can't do anything myself to change it.

@Blackwolfie7711 You can post it in tech support. You find that by going to news->support->tech support. If you have discord you can post it in tech support channeland upload a clip if you have one.

@MidnightChi The peach thing is intentional I think lol. As for the demo I don't think there's any plans to increase the length of time since the demo is meant to encourage people to buy the full app rather than be a miniature version of the same experiece.

@Maddietrystodraw Haha :laughing: I just completed the drawing where this is from a few days ago that has even more demons for you to enjoy :p. Though atm its too big for me to upload to the Colors colors website.

@noisefan624722 Hmm I've thought about it. Vent post are usually something we see as nsfw unless the user is talking about hurting/killing themselves. Maybe I'll address it at some point soon.

The password thing was of high priority because kids kept /keep sharing passwords which led to a lot of drama due to people claimng to be hackers( which isn't true), talking over accounts to troll/ get back at someone, and overall causing confusion.

@SudsySaber Popular request. How we see it is that if someone doesn't want someone to like their artwork than they shouldn't upload it since the Colors Gallery is public to anyone who browses.

As for seeing who liked your post I'll forward the idea to the team and see what who they feel.

@Shadow_Knight_Tina I'd love that too personally! I suggested it to Jens a while ago so maybe it'll move up the priority list eventually.

Like where people post something something like a forum for the purpose of chatting about something, kind of like a discord thread. Title, description, but no actual painting.

what if you could make a painting and post it to a thread contributing to it? of course the moderation of them is a different discussion but I think this could work out

and yeah you could definitely have nsfw threads, just like paintings, but I think that we'd better off keep that to vents and things...

I maybe had a thought on howto bypass the photo reference problem, but I also have 0 infomation so I don't know if it would work.
Theoretically, if you were able to verify a site that provides photography and photo reference (like unsplash) and let nintendo verify them as well, you could maybe work with the site to release files into the colors database, into a section like the 'superliked' section.
You could scroll through and click on the one you want to use, and have an option for ref usage

@TheSmashNash 1.)The current weekly challenge is #wc538 "Childhood Wonder". Sometimes people submit their art late though sometimes people have different timezones too so for them it might not be the deadline yet.

2.) IF you mean entering more than one art into the weekly contest you can but only one will the winner/honorable mentions.

Is there anyway you can keep the Colors! 3D server afloat? 50% of my art comes from my 3DS and I can't bear the thought of seeing my gallery take such a blow.

tbh idk who uses emails, i only check my emails like once a year, so if someone has a discord connected to there acc i would recommend useing that

@-Gooey- Heh. I'll forward your idea to the team. And no asking for follows isn't a call out( though some people can find it annoying). Call-outs are doing comments or posting a painting that attacks another user or draws negative attention towards them which often leads to them getting ganged up on by multiple users and escalting drama.

@-Livi_Cat- Sorry if I missed you if I did! Did I reward your contest yet? Sorry I get tagged for a lot of contest so it can be hard to keep up with every request :sweatsmile:

For your second question yes we collaborated with them in order to give 3DS users a way to still access the gallery.

@LooneyWizard Nintendo shutting down the online servers for old platforms is out of our control unfortunately. However now is a great time to upgrade to Colors Live on switch because we currently have a sale going on. Though act fast because it ends very soon! If you can't afford to upgrade you can always use pretendo on your 3DS too! We collaborated with them as a solution for 3DS users to still connect to the gallery.

@Koraidon Yeah thats why I use discord too or other platformss. Also I reach out to people directly on the Colors Gallery too since for some of our younger users its the best way to reach them.

@DakotaDrawz Thanks for the suggestion! I'll forward your idea to the rest of the team. We have the transparency layer mod that does somewhat similar. Out of curiousity, what's your reason for wanting clip masking? To combo well with transparency lock?

@My_life_sucks We'd like to do a mobile port at some point once the switch version of Colors Live is more feature rich and mature. No timeline as of yet but we aware of the demand for it.

Im on demo so im unable to make a post report right now, but a bug i've recently experienced is when you search up an artist (and only artist; this problem doesnt occur when you search up paintings or tags) on the search bar, it doesnt show any artists. This is a very recent thing and hasnt occured before (for me, at least.)

Yeah unfortunately its due to how it works. Maybe in the future it can be reworked to perform better.

Yeah it can sad when a lot of your favorite artist and best friends leave the gallery. People leave for a variety of reasons. Some people leave because they feel they've outgrown the platform and want to increase their reach/following elsewhere. Which can be sad but we acknowledge that for a lot of users Colors Live may be peoples first step into digital art so that may mean that Colors Live for them was just one of the many stepping stones into their art journey.

And for some other people they may have to focus on work or school so that means they don't have enough time to hang in the gallery as much. My mindset is that we should appreciate the awesome people while they're here and wish them well if/whenever they decide it's time to move on!

I'm black and American if you're curious. The/most of the rest of the team live in Europe so timezones can be a little challenging at times.

i have a question, why are demo users always disqualified immediately in wc submissions? actually baffled bc ive never seen a demo user win nor get honorable mentions

hmmm well i liked it and thought some of the were funny but i dont see them winning anything (no offence i think its really good for ten minutes) buuuuuut i still really think u need more time now when it comes to not promoting demo users well i could be that simply "there demo user"
but colors is small the $30 fee helps the team pay there bill n stuff them promoting the paintings that use all the tools to promote buying the full game makes since i also dont know really any other way topromote↓
