I never watched it, but I think ending it was a good call.
They quit while they were ahead rather than milking it until it was dry, like what kinda happened with MLP.

It's because Amity and Luz, same thing with how Steven Universe (ive never watched it) almost got canceled.
Disney said "It doesnt fit with the brand"
Tho, Dana Terrace said she's open to a spin off
