So, context. Eggman made a thing. Thing blew up. Maya got blown back, bonked her head, and her hair burnt off. She now lives in a small, beach-side town with an old lady and no memory. Sonic and Espio search for her and find her working in a coffee shop, with no intention of retruning home.

Yes. They were good friends and romantic feelings for one another but would never admit it. Now it's a little to late.
