A thing that makes people feel less boring is doing events that wake people up out of their day to day trance. Being weird or stupid are usually easier to accomplish than being profound or heroic. I woke co-works up from their trance when we did a lunch run to Subway and I ordered a meatball and tunafish sandwich with mustard, olives, and fake cheese. It gave them something to talk about and I got a sandwich.
