For a long time I had trouble understanding why Jesus needed to sacrifice himself. We can only be saved by God judging his own son? But it makes sense to me now. If God has perfect judgement and justice, we are all guilty and fall short of his moral standards. He can't be bought off by good deeds. Jesus' sacrifice as a gift means God's character remains perfectly just, but also perfectly merciful by offering his son as a way for us to be redeemed from judgement even though we are not morally perfect

@mcollins its a little late to answer your question lol. sin also needs to have a punishmet always the punishmet for sin is death and eternal damnation. but instead of people haning to be perfect to get into heaven and be with God, God sent his son to die for us instead of us having to take the punishment for our sins. all we have to do is believe in the gift he is giving us
