He can't! He travels at the speed of sound, hence the name sonic. RD travels at the speed of light, proven by her ability to break both the sound AND light barriers at the same time, causing a sonic rainboom.

Dependse on how long the "track" is. If its "short," then sonic would win, because he can break the sound barrier in less than a second. But if the track is "long" dash would win, because, given time, she can break the speed of light.

Hm... both sonic and shadow can move at supersonic speed, about mach 1.2. Pretty impressive for a land animal.
Now, Rainbow Dash usually has a casual flight speed of about mach 5, about four times as fast as the hedgehog's top speed. Furthermore, if she performs a Sonic Rainboom, which she can now do on command, she instantaneously doubles her speed to mach 10, and destroys the visible light spectrum.
In conclusion, Rainbow Dash could win this race with her eyes closed. She would get an early lead, and then when Sonic tried to throw her off with his sonic boom, she do her Rainboom and knock him on his a**.
I live Sonic, but his a** is beat on this one.

it would depend upon the terrain, on flat ground, sonic would smoke her easily, but if over hills/mountains, other unmerciful ground, then rainbow dash could maybe keep ahead of sonic...it would also depend on the climate. too windy? sonic! too hot? rainbiw dash, because sonic burns much more energy through running...so all-in-all, they both have theiradvantages and disadvantages.

@darkspineshadic759 Please read my previous comment detailing the two character's actual speed measurements. Rainbow Dash can break both the light AND sound barriers simultaneously. Also, her top flight speed is about nine times faster than Sonic's.

This is totally off topic but the Flash could definitely beat both of them. Near the end of Justice League Unlimited season one he discovers he can run faster than sound and uses it to defeat a fused Lex Luthor and Brainiac. It was seriously awesome. You should all definitely look up that battle.
