Is it a wasp or a hornet?

This is an eastern yellowjacket
Yellowjackets are a genus of wasps that are closely related to hornets, them [yellowjackets] being the genus Vespula and hornets being the genus Vespa. Basically-- they're both wasps.
There seems to be this misconception that hornets aren't wasps, but they very much are wasps. They're just a specific genus of wasps!
