Okay, so I should preface by saying my dad has lived here for like 25 years, before my mom even met him. These particular neighbors have lived here that entire time. They've always been a bit strange, a bit nosy about the neighborhood, but other than that not too bad.

Well, this last year, we've been having some issues. People have been driving ATVs on our property, but we didn't know who. Various neighbors' dogs have been getting on our property, including these particular neighbors' jack russels that they never leash, and an incident with someone else's two aggressive pitbulls. We have people's trash (beer cans, juice pouches, etc) appearing on property at all sides. The neighborhood, which was once rural, is slowly being developed into suburbia. So my dad was planning for a while, because of all this, to eventually fence in the whole property, not just the small yard around the house. (Cont.)

Well, a couple months ago, standing in my kitchen making lunch with my mom, I look out the window and see these two men on our side of the property line. One is the neighbor, the other is a stranger. Naturally, I kinda freak, yeah? So my mom starts recording them until they disappear around the side of the house. Can't see them now, so I go outside. Well here goes this ATV rip roaring off our property. So that's who keep going on our property.

When my dad gets home, he's had enough at this point of other people invading our property, so he starts putting up No Trespassing signs everywhere, and start measuring according to our old property assessment for a fence. He's not doing this just because of that particular guy, but because of everything. That was just the straw that broke the camel's back, yeah? (Cont. Sorry, its a bit of along story.)

Well, an hour or so later when my dad checks the mailbox, here's a handwritten letter! (Note: putting something in someone else's mailbox when you're not a postal worker is illegal.) So my dad comes and reads it to both my mom and I in the kitchen. Its from the neighbor. In this (poorly written) letter, he is cursing my dad out for putting up the signs, saying, "Really, just because I have a property appraiser out here, you're getting your panties in a wad and putting up signs?" (Paraphrased of course). Continues cursing while complaining that we've been horrible neighbors (we haven't) and then says that our trash is all in his yard. Tells my father to get his "lazy as in the woods and pick up some trash."

I am seeing absolute red. No one say that about a family member of mine. You don't curse them out, insult them. I think I said I was going to go beat his pathetic behind. (I didn't, of course, but I wanted to) That trash that he's talking about isn't even from us!! Its from the previous owners of this property, who left more than twenty years ago! We've cleaned up our property several times! Its not our responsibility to clean up his too! (Cont)

Later, helping my mom make dinner, I look out the window again, and I see this guy again! This time, he's pacing just along the edge of the property line. Then he starts digging around in the leaves and proceeds to throw beer bottles and rusty metal on our property. I get scared and tell my dad to get in the house NOW, because he's sitting on the front porch, chatting with a friend on the phone. He comes in, sees what the dunce is doing, and gets pretty ticked. So he goes out there to talk to him once and for all.
The guy starts trying to rile my dad up, cussing at him, telling him to go effing ballistic. My dad is like, "Dude, I just want to talk. I didn't put those signs up just because of you. People have been trespassing on our property left and right. So when my wife and kid get scared saying two strange men are on our property when I'm not home? Yeah, I'm going to put up signs at that point. You need to chill out. That trash isn't even from us! Those shingles? We have a metal roof! Those beer bottles? No one in my house drinks!" (Not to mention they're the really old fashioned kind that hasn't been around in a few decades, but no one said that)

The guy is like, "Oh yeah, that makes sense. Sorry, I'm just stressed out. My wife wants me to put up a fence because she's worried about our two dogs." (Same wife that lets those two dogs run unleashed in the road and use our yard as a toilet, but okay, sure dude)

My dad said, "That's fine, next time just ask, yeah? I would have gladly given you person to walk on our side with the assessor (not appraiser, I put the wrong thing earlier) if you had just asked." They both shake hands and part ways. That should be the end of it, right? (Cont.)

Its not. Now every weekend, I see them walking right along the property line for no reason (at least before it was under the pretence of walking their dogs). Walk the dog and he barks (he's got a decently loud bark) at a rabbit? Gun shots towards our property. I got to walk on the far side of our property with my mom? Guns start firing the moment we go on that side, and stop when we retreat. Yeah, some coincidence. But you know what, screw you, were not going to be scared of walking on our own property. We're going to get that fence up eventually, and we're going to stay here and ignore your childiish, two-year-old-tantrum behavior.
So yeah, fun times. Sorry to regale you with a whole boring book!

Your dad must have a lot od chill to deal with those idiots so calmly because at some point, I think I'd lose it with them because what they're doing is NOT OKAY- like at all.

Has your family considered getting law enforcement involved?

(Also sorry for late response, I was with friends)

Yeah, I was kinda proud of my dad for staying so level-headed. No law enforcement, because it's not worth the trouble, and most of it, they would just say it's a civil matter anyway. The gunshots (which we can't prove, but its a darned funny coincidence) haven't happened in a while, so we're a little bit hopeful maybe things will get better? Maybe they've realized it was just a misunderstanding, and they'll calm down? We'll see.

And no worries, I'm glad you were having fun out in the real world! :)
