Shadow is Echo's best friend, they're kinda like Sonic and Tails, so they're always together, Echo hates the quiet and being alone so Shadow keeps her company, and Echo gives him someone to talk to, so he can always get a little weight off his shoulders.

(This slightly altered design is like the scarf/necklace I've been drawing Sonic with, I imagine after a little while, Shadow would have a chipped ear, and be wearing another ring around his neck like a scarf)
