Roaches are not the villains they're seen as by the majority of people. While the well known pest species are bad, most roach species are not pests.
Most invertebrates in general are viewed through a lens of fear, disgust and/or hate, and treated with so much needless cruelty. It hurts me deeply every day.

I've never got why people are scared/grossed out by cockroaches.
