@NyxVoxStar it is made up. I am pretty sure if birds that size with that sharp of a beak were running around you would have seen them on the news!
However, one of the fun parts about concepting is using existing creatures to build on. If you watch the video I actually painted a larger than usual ostrich first to get some idea of what a giant bird may look like. Then I modified the colors, beak, texture, etc.
I won't complained about it tho, since i understand that's a hard subject, different than just photo realism or general illustrations. Btw, nice chicken.
Oh I understand that aspect. . I was just meaning you wished there was more concept art. It is a challenging thing for folks to do. It requires some realism skills, some new ideas, and the ability to combine them into a scene. One thing we might do is further discuss use of reference, even in concept art. The pros definitely use reference (and sometimes integrate stock photos, 3d models, etc.), but you can't just find a concept scene in one photo. You have to combine them, and then learn how to match up the lighting, etc. And knowing where to look for reference is a big aspect. MIght be good for another tips tutorial from the Realism Discussion Group folks!

@tall73 What name have you given it's species?
04 Sep, 2022, 8:40 am
Reminds me of a chonky ostrich. It's both adorable and terrifying!
04 Sep, 2022, 9:12 pm
@NyxVoxStar I haven't. Any ideas from folks?

@tall73 I'm afraid naming anything isn't my strong point but I would love to know what it is named when you pick a name for it's species.
So sorry for being no help at all. :/

@NyxVoxStar
No problem, I was drawing a blanks as well.
In consultation with my daughter we came up wit the species name: Magnus Avis Purpura
Which roughly translates to big purple bird in Latin. And apparently this particular bird is named Phil.

Your daughter has such cool ideas, it's so impressive that she knows latin! :0 :0
I have to admit Phil is one impressive bird! ^w^
