Happened to me too. Lost alllll of my progress in Acnl. I had full upgrade, a few bugs left to catch and 4 mill. in the bank, plus a ton of rare stuff. I had to reset and haven't been on since :)

hope your island re-creation goes well! i restarted one of my acnh islands and i found a bunch of other cool characters so maybe you'll find characters and new items you wanted on a new island!
