Just wanted to offer a text tutorial of this brush to encourage people to use it. I'll explain a bit about how to use it simply. Then i'll explain what it does. Then i'll try and give a more advanced explanation of maximising this tools potential. Lets get started.

1. So first things first...
How do we use this brush? (Basic)
- This brush is best used after you have placed colour nearer the end of the process
- Start with low opacity as subtlety works best for this brush
- For safety duplicate the layer you intend to use this brush on so you can go back if needed
When should I use this brush? (Basic)
- To imply a light source shining on a subject
- To bring out a washed out or muddy part of an image
- To separate foreground and background

2. Before moving on...
- I would advise you to select a lighter colour that represents your light source when using this brush
This next section is a bit of the technical
What does this brush do?
- Despite the simplified name it does much more than lighten the colour
- In the example image the top left and right are untouched
- The top centre is after using the brush on highest opacity and set to white
- The bottom row from left to right is the brush set to Cyan, Magenta and Yellow

3. Explaining continues...
- As you can see there are two things being shifted
- Val is being shifted towards W
- Hue is being subtracted towards C, M, or Y when the Val is beyond a certain Val
- Which of the three (C, M, or Y) is decided based on which Hue is closer to the original Hue
- When the Hue is set to C, M, or Y any starting point where that primary colour is present will have the other two primary colours subtracted
- If you set the brush to a darker Val it will lessen this effect

4. On to the more advanced use...
- If you set the colour on a Hue between the primary CMY you can get Hue shifting to a lesser extent towards whichever is closest to the chosen tone which can better represent your light source
- If you use a duplicated layer for lightening then after you have finished with the brush you can adjust the opacity of the effected layer revealing the uneffected layer below. This grants you more control over the effect

5. Last one...
- Another great way to use it is to add a low opacity layer of a single solid shading colour as a "Tint." Then apply the lightening to that layer shifting the tint where you need
- For illustration works having linework on a separate layer above all colour layers can really help as it allows for the depth of this brush not to impact the clarity of the linework
I'll now welcome any questions and answer as best i can. <3

Does anyone know how many it takes for superlikes?
12 Sep, 2022, 11:22 pm
@GraceGirl superlikes aren't based on number of likes. Superlikes are rewarded by the devs and then people who have them can award them to a single painting. in this instance this artwork was superliked i believe because it is a useful tutorial for a new tool. i think it was madwurmz.com that superliked it but i don't actually know. I was very exited when i saw it. I think there is more information on the about page about superlikes.
