Snowpaw sat in the clearing, gazing at the sky. A snowflake fell and landed on his nose. He didn't notice his mentor, Blackberrytail, walk up to him. "Ah!" Snowpaw shouted. "You scared me." Blackberrytail chuckled, then said, "Are you ready for training?" Snowpaw said, "Yes!" He stood up, and trotted behind Blackberrytail. "Let's have fight training by the river, the land is flatter there." Blackberrytail told his apprentice. "Now, we'll have to be careful, since the ice and mod and snow-melt

make the land slippery, and you could fall into the water." Snowpaw nodded his head, and shook snow off his paw. They reached the river a little after that. "Ok, Snowpaw. Watch me closely." Blackberrytail said.

As Blackberrytail showed Snowpaw the move, his paw slipped and he fell! Snowpaw rushed to the river edge, grabbing his mentor's paw. He tried to pull his mentor up, but since Blackberrytail was twice his weight, he just started to slip too. Blackberrytail realized this then said, "Let go." Snowpaw's eyes widened as his mentor's paw slid off of his. "No!" he shouted his eyes filling with tears. He heard a splash in the water.
