I saw the wc for this week and wanted to participate. So I scrapped this together as quick as I could. A more blue version of my last umbreon drawing with a different perspective.
EDIT: Re-uploaded to try and fix something. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!
EDIT 2: Oh WOW! This got 100 likes!? Thank you so much everyone!!! TuT

@Puzzled I've got two of them! :3 One was from a trade and the other I raised myself.
Also, thanks! I saw the wc theme and thought "why not?" since I already had a painting ready for it. I get the feeling you're going to win, though. :)

********************************* WHAT?!?!?! This is probably the best drawing of Umbreon I have ever seen!!!!!!!!! If this doesn't win the weekly challenge, or at least become an honorable mentions, I'm deleting my account and throwing my Switch into a wall.
04 Jul, 2022, 10:09 am
@Mewsea: I'm not surprised you already have one but very impressed you have 2! And technically, I'm still not sure I still qualify to win. One of the rules states it can't be a re-upload and I technically re-uploaded this to fix something. So who knows :/
@jdogpug21: is this... an applause?! Thank you! ^u^
@AutumnColors: No guarantees but thank you for your vote of confidence! :)
@CyRy1029: I'm hoping you won't do that regardless of the outcome but I'm glad that you like the drawing and thank you for caring so much! :D

@Puzzled Your welcome. I just get out of control with something I really like. This drawing is just really well made!!!
04 Jul, 2022, 1:43 pm
yes! this art was wonderful!
05 Jul, 2022, 12:38 pm
@Puzzled Oh, really? I didn't know that. But since you made adjustments to it and deleted the old one, is it still considered a re-upload? :/
And, speaking of shiny Umbreon... I just got another beautiful shiny to add to my collection! Shiny Shaymin! ^-^ I was hunting for it for months. Found it at almost four thousand encounters... She's beautiful. :3 I've been really lucky lately!

@jdogpug21: Well then, don't mind if I do! *bows to the applause* XD
@Mewsea: At this point, I don't think it ever really mattered. I think the rules are more of a guideline than a prerequisite. :/
And congrats on the shiny shaymin! They have a beautiful turquoise color. 4000 encounters wow! You have been lucky lately! I guess somaz isn't just your inspiration but your good luck charm too! ^u^
@animedragon: ty :D

@Puzzled That makes me really happy! :D
And no problem at all! ^_^
27 Jul, 2022, 2:06 am
@Puzzled Guess who just got shiny Darkai too? After only 857 encounters. >;3 Muhahaha... Yes, it twas I. Caught it in a moon ball too, which makes it even rarer. Like my shiny Shaymin in a love ball.
Next stop is shiny Arceus! But first, I gotta capture Dialga because I wasn't sure if I wanted to hunt it in Brilliant Diamond or Sword. But now that I've done the soft reset mehtod so much in BD... I think Dynamax Adventures are faster in Sword.
30 Jul, 2022, 10:36 am
@Mewsea: Wow! I was recently considering trying to shiny hunt shaymin, darkrai, and arceus. But that encounter number has me scared! (hatching that number of eggs seems easier) And then to catch them with those special balls!!! XoX
How do you do it? What wisdom can you depart on this newbie to the art of legendary shiny hunting?
Seriously, your exploits are incredible! ^u^
31 Jul, 2022, 7:32 pm
@Puzzled It's called having too much time on your hands, lol. XD But I think setting a schedule for yourself helps too. You could try to hunt only an hour a day. Or do as I do and hunt 100 encounters a day. Which is usually equivalent to an hour anyway. You can do 100 encounters with Shaymin in 50 minutes if you use the runaway method. And 100 encounters with Darkrai in an hour and 20 minutes using soft resets.
With Dynamax Adventures, I hunt 3 different Pokemon daily, which usually cost me an hour and a half.
Of course, I take breaks too. Somedays I don't shiny hunt at all.
02 Aug, 2022, 10:16 am
@Mewsea: Oooooh! I usually try in bursts which quickly burns me out, but your method seems more efficient! With those numbers, then it took you 9 days to catch shiny Darkrai? Wow!
But what about catching them? My biggest fear for legendaries is that they'll struggle themselves to death. And then to add on a shiny legendary after many encounters? I think I might cry if they faint ToT
05 Aug, 2022, 3:21 am
@Puzzled My friend, what you need is a Heal Pulse user with False Swipe and Hypnosis. Thankfully, there's but one Pokemon that fits that criteria. Iiiiit's... *drumroll* Gallade! I mean, Mew works too, but I don't think it can learn Heal Pulse through level up/TM. And I know for a fact it can't learn Hypnosis through normal methods... Anyway. You can just use Heal Pulse to heal the opponent if it starts using struggle. I would highly recommend you keep tabs on which moves it uses and how many. That way, you know exactly when its PP will run out and when to heal it before it faints itself (if it's HP is 1/4 or less). The only downfall is, you have less of a chance to capture it now if it's HP is half/full. But all of this could be avoided if you only used a Master Ball instead. Shaymin is much easier to catch than Darkrai and Arceus, so you needn't worry about capturing it. It took me only two love balls to capture it.
Another thing I would recommend is to equip Gallade with Wide Lens. That way, it's Hypnosis has a higher Chace of hitting the target. But when dealing with Darkrai, it's...a little different. It's wiser to use Thunder Wave instead. That's because Darkrai knows Hynosis, and - worse of all - Double Team. So it's better to Thunder Wave it at the beginning of the battle and have it paralyzed permanently than to use Hypnosis and risk it waking up and missing repeatedly.
05 Aug, 2022, 4:02 am
Oooh, I just thought of something else! Instead of using Heal Pulse, you could use Trick instead! Equip your Pokemon with a Leppa Berry, use Trick, and Voila! The opponent can now use that Leppa Berry to restore tenPP to its last-used move! That'll only save you ten turns, though, so good luck! XD
Now, what I'd really like to see is someone with a full team of Pokemon that use Trick AND Heal Pulse to stall a battle. Lmao! Now THAT's entertainment. Can you just imagine the sheer amount of disappointment if said person STILL didn't catch the Pokemon after THAT many turns? That's gotta be well over one-hundred turns, right? I'd cry if that were to happen to me. It would probably put me off of shiny hunting for years. D:
06 Aug, 2022, 10:25 am
@Mewsea: Wow, that's incredibly well thought-out! It's genius! (So this is the thought process of a pro shiny hunter) Hmm, if shaymin is the easiest to catch then I should start with it. I think I'll also practice your method on a non-shiny encounter to make sure I don't mess up. And of course, get me a gallade and prep it for shiny hunting!
Thank you soooo much for all this information!!! I shall report back with my inevitable (hopeful) success!!! >u<
06 Aug, 2022, 7:07 pm
@Puzzled There you go, feeding my ego again. XD Lol. Do you not see how big my head is already? Oh well. Thank you very much.
I got myself a shiny Gallade to use for shiny hunting. Shiny hunting Gallade isn't too hard with the poke radar. But it's optional, of course.
I also like to use a Synchronizer as my lead so that I can pass specific natures to wild Pokemon. My Timid Mew was very useful for passing its nature to Shaymin and Darkrai.
Oh! And you can easily level up your Gallade to level 100 in Pokemon Sword/Shield. Just use candies, preferably the XL ones. It's better than trying to level grind it in BDSP.
I test-fighted a non-shiny Arceus and caught it with only 3 level balls? o_O And the Pokemon I used to catch it with was a level 1 Abra. I don't know if its bugged or that I got EXTREMELY lucky, but I'm pretty sure level balls are suppose to work better the higher your level is to the opponent. Hmmm... This will take more testing.
07 Aug, 2022, 10:25 am
@Mewsea: But it's praise you deserve! But if you want, I'll keep compliments to a minimum (won't stop me from thinking it!)
Oh, I should use a synchronizer too! Now, I'm glad my shiny hunt was unsuccessful today. From what I've seen of shiny hunting with that radar, it seems annoying since the chain can easily break. I think I'll stick to breeding shinies if I can. I'm familiar with the process, have more control, and I can wonder trade the rejects! I just can't breed legendaries T-T
That sounds... unbelievable! That seems like the worst case scenario for level balls. If it's a bug, then would that mean it compares the level difference regardless of whose is bigger? I think I'm leaning more towards you got lucky. Or maybe the catch rates in bdsp are more generous so it isn't as extreme as you would think... (doubtful but plz let it be that >o<)
07 Aug, 2022, 11:44 pm
@Puzzled Nah, I don't wanna make you feel like you can't be yourself. So if that's what you wanna do, I don't mind it.
Okay, cool! The radar might be easier for me, but I can understand why you don't wanna use it. My chain broke on me several times, but it wasn't terrible. I got my shiny Ralts in one day. Maybe took about five hours to find it on a chain of 13.
I'm actually curious if level balls are supposed to be worse than standard poke balls when used on a higher leveled Ponemon. Or if they just act as standard pokeballs, then.
AND OMG I THINK I THOUGHT OF A WAY TO STALL A BATTLE FOREVER BUT I GOTTA TEST IT OUT FIRST! IT'S EVEN BETTER THAN USING HEAL PULSE!
But, basically, you wanna use Trick while holding a Leppa Berry, as I previously said. But now...with Recycle. >:) You get what I'm saying? I think a Pokemon has to eat the berry before it can be recycled, though, which is what I wanna test out. And you wanna know the best part? Gallade can learn both of those moves too. It's like it was made to shiny hunt.
AND! Even if you were to run out of PP with Trick, Recycle will just restore Trick with the Leppa Berry. The only way the battle will stop is if you somehow run out of PP of both Trick and Recycle at the same time. But, even if you do, you can just go into your bag and restore Recycle with either an ether or a Leppa berry.
I think I like this method better because - not only do you possibly never have to restore PP from your bag - but you can also keep your opponent at 1HP. Which gives you a better advantage of catching it.
So, it goes like this: Your Pokemon uses Trick at the beginning of the battle > Opponents runs out of PP and consumes Leppa Berry > Your Pokemon uses Recycle to regain Leppa Berry > Your Pokemon uses Trick to to give Leppa Berry to opponent > Rinse and repeat while throwing Pokeballs in between those time frames.
And if your Pokemon consumes a Leppa Berry during the battle, just use Recycle again. Unless - like I said - it uses said Leppa Berry to restore Trick and that was your last PP of Recycle. In which case, you'll want to restore Recycle from your bag.
Am I a genius or what?
08 Aug, 2022, 3:06 am
@Puzzled I fogot to wish you good luck on your shiny hunt! So, good luck! I hope you find your shiny Shaymin soon! :D
Also, sorry for the long wall of text. I got carried away... If you made it this far, I'm impressed.
08 Aug, 2022, 4:19 am
@Puzzled I just read on bulbapedia that Recycle can't recover berries that were "Tricked" away. -_- What a shame. I was so excited about it too. Sorry for wasting your time.
Guess it's best just to stick with Heal Pulse.
08 Aug, 2022, 11:09 am
@Mewsea: Oh, that's right! The chain doesn't have to get to 40+, the shiny rate increases as the chain increaces. Hmm, in that case it won't hurt to give it a try... after shaymin. And level balls at worse should be similar to pokeballs since they are the base (I think)
I don't mind your wall of text. Luckily for you, I'm a bookworm! I really enjoyed reading your theory. It definitely was a fun thought experiment! Assuming that the goal is strickly to keep the battle going infinitely, then the battle will still end when the opponent is caught or when you run out of pokeball (which will be finite). If the goal is to lengthen the opportunity window for catching, then other factors could become a hinderance. The move most likely to be restored would be an attacking move, you'll need to spend turns healing as well as tricking/recycling/catching, 5 PP moves exist, and pressure. Worst case could be vs Giratina. It has pressure, a 5 PP move in Shadow Force, it can't be caught when using said move, and you're using gallade who is weak to ghost types. That's not to say there don't exist work-arounds for these distruptions such as spliting tasks to different mons. Regardless of the bulbapedia discovery, it really was a clever idea! I actually had wanted to see it in practice if it worked. Alas, it seems your idea was too powerful...
And thanks! Currently 200 encounters in and nothing (maybe tomorrow will be the day~) ^u^
08 Aug, 2022, 10:27 pm
@Puzzled It's definitely worth it just to try it, in my opinion! :D
Ohh, I hadn't thought about the opposing Pokemon having Pressure as an ability. Yes, that would pose a problem...
Actually, I read from somewhere last night that you can use Skill Swap to swap your Harvest ability onto the opponent. That way, the opposing Pokemon can restore berries that you or itself have eaten. The problem is, it doesn't always work, but it's guaranteed to work in harsh sunlight. That all sounds well and good, but I don't wanna constantly switch between Gallade and Exeggutor just so that I keep the battle going. The more switching I do, the more turns are wasted, and the more risky it becomes. Plus, Skill Swap won't work on Pokemon with an ability like Multitype - which Arceus has - so it all seems pointless at this point.
I DO wonder, though... What if your Pokemon were to eat the Leppa Berry first before using Trick to swap it over? Would Recycle still faill? I'm doubtful it will work, but I
08 Aug, 2022, 10:28 pm
still wanna try.
On an unrelated note... Congrats for the 100 likes on your Umbreon art! It's very well deserved! :D
09 Aug, 2022, 9:42 am
@Mewsea: I hadn't thought about harvest. Looking up online, harvest has a chance to activate every turn. Meaning you'll need it to activate once within 10 turns (5 with pressure). So one could skill swap harvest to the opponent (except Arceus and Zygarde) and then trick the leppa berry over. This removes pressure and the opponent could potentially prevent themselves from ever running out of PP, assuming harvest activates once within 10 turns. Potentially more turns if you add sleep/paralysis. Then you could just keep gallade out without the need to switch back to exeggutor. If harvest should fail, you could have recycle/trick on gallade as two additional safety checks. And I don't see any berry restoration limitations that recycle has. This might work better potentially. The biggest drawback I can see right now is the gamble the opponent will activate harvest on time consecutively.
On that unrelated note: OMG My first 100 likes!!! >u< Didn't think it was possible... so I'm gonna screenshot this for remembrance! Thanks for letting me know ^u^
10 Aug, 2022, 4:41 am
@Puzzled Oh, well, that's what I meant about switching between Gallade and Exeggutor. Exeggutor can learn Sunny Day, which it can use to guarantee Harvest to activate. But I just learnt yesterday that Gallade can learn Sunny Day too. So, you know what that means, lol. No need to switch back and forth. Exeggutor can also learn Hypnosis, sooo... I guess it doesn't really matter who you choose to keep out, as long as Gallade weakens the opponent with False , and assuming that the opponent doesn't have any self-healing moves.
Remember that Recycle fails if a berry is given away by Trick.
10 Aug, 2022, 9:18 am
@Mewsea: Oh right! I got too deep in the theoretical. the recycle restrictions slipped my mind! Your right, sunny day is the better alternative to gurantee the harvest to activate. But Gallade can learn that too?! False swipe, heal pulse, trick, thunder wave, hypnosis, sunny day: is Gallade the perfect shiny hunter?
While this strategy can't work for Arceus, I might consider using it when I start shiny hunting Darkrai since it does seem doable. (And I reaaaaaaly don't want these legendaries struggling to death on me) If not, I'll have good and reliable heal pulse.
12 Aug, 2022, 1:47 am
@Puzzled I know, right!? XD And it can learn Skill swap! The only thing it lacks is the best ability: Harvest.
If you plan to use this strategy for Darkrai, do be careful. Setting it up will already cost you four turns (Switching from your Synchronizer to Exeggutor. Exeggutor using Skill Swap, Exeggutor using Trick, and Switching from Exeggutor to Gallade). Worst case scenario, Darkrai will use Double Team all four turns. And don't forget you have to get Thunder Wave and False Swipe to hit for the best catch rate.
Hmmm... Might I recommend keeping a Pokemon on your team that knows Haze? Haze will eliminate all stat changes in battle.
Alternatively, you could use a Master Ball, if you still have it. If you don't, I wouldn't mind trading you some. I used the cloning glitch to duplicate some Master Balls before it got patched.
12 Aug, 2022, 10:51 am
@Mewsea: Hmm, thats true. The setup takes a while, Darkrai has double team (Why would they do that? ToT), and the strategy can't work on Arceus. From what I've looked in to, haze does seem like the best solution. I could not use a synchronizer. That saves me a turn and mints do exist now. I could also get exeggutor to learn sleep powder/stun spore to buy some turns to set up. Powering through the double team is... madness. Yup, masterball last resort should everything go horribly, horribly wrong!
I do still have mine. I just much rather not use it if I can. Might be hubris, but I stubbornly want your harvest strategy to succeed... and because I wanna have shiny legendaries in unique balls too~ :3

@Your_Local_Person2: Umbreon really is amazing! ^u^ And thank you for the kind offer but I don't think I would; I'm sorry. >o<
01 Sep, 2022, 8:09 am
@Your_Local_Person2: Yes, maybe someday! I have a lot going on and drawings I'm prioritizing right now (for myself and for others) that I don't wanna be overwhelmed or rush anything. Thanks for understanding! TuT
If you still want, maybe ask me again around November? I should be more free then!
