Yawn by Puzzled

So, I've reached 150 followers. This is probably not the best drawing to celebrate that XP (you're all not boring!)

But I do want to say: To everyone who enjoys my art (past, present, and future)
Thank you! ^u^

Congrats on 150 followers!

Q&A time! :D

Just kidding. But I would like to ask you...

Where do you get your inspiration from? Your drawings are always so scenic and I was wondering if it all comes from your imagination or not.

Great Slowpoke and Wailord, by the way!

the look in wailord's eye i can feel as if it's looking up at thoses birds and thinking i wish i could fly in the sky

@Mewsea: That's fair. I did ask you something for your 150 lol XD

Hmm, I go into a drawing with an idea in mind. For example, I'm considering drawing unknow next. I sketch out ideas until I get one or two that I like. The backgrounds are my attempt to fill the void and enhance the idea. So I guess it does mainly come from imagination, but the final version often looks better than what was in my head XP

@Kay the pikachu: I didn't have that in mind when I drew this but now I can't unsee that. Wailord wishfully hoping to fly with the birds. I like it! ^u^

it'd take mewtwo using his powers to make wailord fly but seeing wailord come up out of the water in pokemon snp is close

@MentalMinty: Thank you and thank you!!! ^u^

@Kay the pikachu: That sounds like a great way to fly, even if its because of a legendary's help. Probably more special that way! My close second would be to have wailords bounce because they apperently can learn that. But I think you can get very close in snap right? That sounds very cool! :D

@Puzzled Wow. You don't know how impressive that is, especially for someone like me who has the imagination of a rock, lol.

So, do you ever have to use references for your backgrounds, ever?

Sorry if I ask too many questions. ^-^''

@Mewsea: I think you're underselling yourself. I refuse to believe that anyone that can draw a gijinka has poor imagination! XD

My backgrounds, specifically? Hmm... I do use references, at least to get a sense of the location. But more so when getting details like the moon or the city lights at a distance. If anything, I almost always use refences when it comes to the sky. I don't know why but I always wanna get the colors right.

I think you should also know that when I first started learning to draw, I started off learning to draw landscapes. So I have some experience with backgrounds.

@Puzzled Whoa, that's so cool! Thanks for all the info! I think I have a better understanding of how I should approach more scenic backgrounds now...

And yeah, I guess my imagination isn't too bad. After all, I've created quite a unique style for myself. I've never seen anything else quite like it. ^-^

I think your style has a unique flair to it too. I can always tell straightaway it's your work, without even looking at your name.

@razrdraws: Thanks ^u^

@Mewsea: Really? I feel like I tend to confuse people more rather than help them. -o- But if you need advice, I'll help the best I can. Or you can watch videos online (I'd suggest Bob Ross)

I'm glad you're giving your imagination the credit it is due! It is interesting how art styles end up being unique. I wonder how that happens? Unique people, unique imaginations, so unique art?

@Puzzled Y'know, it's funny... Despite me liking his work, I've never watched a Bob Ross video. I'm oddly determined to learn as much as I can without someone trying to teach me. Idk why.

Yes, I suppose that's how styles tend to work. Though, there's many that look similar. And I imagine it's because they learn from artists with a similar style.

@Mewsea: lol I think I'm the opposite. I'm willing to take any advice and even watch video tutorials online if it will help me improve. Especially, if it's free and out there. >:D

Neither way of learning is wrong. Which ever works best varies on the individual.
Interesting theory and it makes sense. So then, our style evolves from what we like. I figuered styles evolved from techniques and shortcuts we develop as we grow as an artist.
