福 (****) Weekly Contest Entry Topic: Kanji by RoseSoup

This Kanji (fu ku) represents a general sentiment of fortune but the significance changes based on the circumstances it appears. In this case it is placed on a Daruma doll making the intent to be that you will succeed on the goal you have set yourself with the doll. Look up these guys for a fascinating history and tradition. It really takes th saying "keep your eyes on the prize" to another level. Apologies if i am not doing this justice. I am not Japanese. #wc462 #pixel #kanji #福 #daruma

I left the title as censored to highlight the issue that writing this word in the latin alphabet gets censored. I am concerned with the anglo-centric nature of this censorship as it is only adjacent to an English swearword but the meaning couldn't be futher from it. Censoring the languages of others based on the sensibilities of English speakers doesn't seem fair to me. Free the f u k u . Prosperity to all!

Now that i've stepped off my soapbox (lol) i'll mention that the eyes are not a mistake. The way i was taught was that you colour one pupil of the doll when you see your goal. You colour the second when you have approached it. Much love to all! <3

It makes me happy to see how much love and research went into this drawing, I love being able to appreciate art while learning something new ! Especially as a Japanese Canadian, its very cool to learn something from my own culture. :) The kanji is very well written too!

I love how you've used tradition of the doll eyes to create your price. I hope you win the weekly contest!
