I like the way you start your portraits, I have been doing alot of practice to see witch way works better fot me, for instance, sketch reference first or just start throwing down color first or the grey scale like you do. For me throwing down color first definitely was the ticket. I used poor Gandalf as my test lol!

@TB_studios And yesss i HAVE to start my portraits with some type of sketch, or just blocking in the shadows. Although jumping right into the color is kinda fun sometimes :P

Hailey, honestly that is the hardest thing, trying to find out who to paint, ever since they announced they were doing this portrait contest I have been thinking non-stop on who to paint I started one last night, I hope it works out.

@TB_studios agreed! My brain stopped functioning, so i started a portait of Shaggy.. xD I think this lady was a better choice though LOL. Cant wait to see yours! Im sure it'll be awesome

so you are tracing some image! and then you call that a sketch like thats normal? but this is actually very smart... are you some smart cookie? it is a controversial topic for the #rdcontest because you skip a step that is the part many struggle with haha

@the$t* yeah, i know tracing is controversial. Thats why i made sure to say i did so. Although i still put a lot of effort into the painting ;-;

@the$t* i might do another portrait without tracing so i dont look cheap :/

Switching between 3ds and switch to use photo referene is so smart!! I don't see the problem with tracing for the sketch, all of the painting done afterwards is originally created :p looks awesome!

yeah tracing is controversial on this contest topic, but it is a famous technique for professionals, it is making me think you have made a good step towards professionalism here ... :)

Leave the tag. Some judges may look at it as a positive innovation, others as a negative. But it is fine to keep it in the contest. And you, of course, can enter other paintings as well, as with any of our contests.

it doesnt feel cheap , or I can say that cheap labor fits professionalism , it is smart work not hard work u kno?

@the$t* always has a unpopulair opinion but a smart cookie was meant as a positive word :P im saying its a professional trick and it made me think about this topic all day. hopefully other contesters will intrigue us with the same impressiveness :)
