@CallMeCrazyArt Colors has some slightly different properties than traditional drawing or even other digital programs. Personally I think it is because of the underlying vector-based engine (which has its advantages!). So it takes some time to get accustomed to some of the properties. Usuaully artists attempting realism on here have a learning curve and then their work gets quite a bit better, at least in my observation. It is just a matter of getting the program to do what the brain knows to do.
The shadows and highlights on this are also good. You can see the distinct occlusion area of the shadows, and the softening of the cast shadow on the white surface as they extend out. You have the reflected light in the shadow outside of the occlusion. And you keep all your values on the shadow side in the shadow range. Great work! Enjoyed the process video as well.
Also @Duck01lover if you are able to and have an interest you could join our realism discussion group on discord. We talk about painting techniques, show our artwork, sometimes help with WIP or what changes might be best for a painting, etc. Sometimes we talk about conspiracy theories also, but that is usually just @Madwurmz and me. It is on the Colorslive discord. You can go to the news section of www.colorslive.com, and look on the right side of the page where there is an invite link. Then once you join the Colors discord you can go to WIP and Feedback channel, and our Realism Discussion group is a thread there.
this is very nice! do you think the apple in the middle should be moved up a bit, so the margin all around are more even? or is this a painting of a painting? :O the apples have some fantastic life-like colors
@madwurmz.com I painted this using a still-life photograph as reference. That is how I positioned the apples in the photo. I was thinking something looked a little off about the apple in the middle and I think you may be right :O Thanks so much for your input!

I actually like the position of the apple better in this version than the re-worked one. It emphasizes the overlap more. But both are good.
