I don't know if you know this, and if you do, apologies for intruding, but you can merge two layers together, which can help with coloring in between or around lines. Personally, i find that it makes this much easier and less time consuming, and didn't know i could until i saw it when viewing another painting.
As for the painting, nice job. the dots on the varios layers are a nice touch
