@cleric to shade the character i make the coloring and lineart on different layers, then i create a new layer In between the too and i do the shading with a dark purple, blue or black at 100% opacity, the shading is under the lineart but over the coloring layer, then i lower the opacity until i like how it looks
@cleric for the background as you can see i used a dark saturated blue but black can work too, i use the soft brush to make those lights and i use very light yellow and blue colors
@cleric then as a final detail (this is optional) i merge all the layers until it all becomes just 1 if i like how they look and create a ney layer, and color the whole screen (in this case i used a very bright pink so that' why it all looks kinda pinkish, but ofc you can use any color) and then i lower the opacity, very low just for the whole drawing to look a bit of the tone of the color i used, and erase the areas with light or anything that i want to look lighter which in this case was the eyes to make them pop out
@cleric and finally i add a gradient from the side or top of the screen depending on the light source, so i do the same thing as the last thing i explained, but instead of coloring the entire screen i use the soft brush at max size to create the gradient effect
@cleric sorry i know i typed too much and it may seem like it's too complicated but it really is not, it's just about playing with the layers opacities xD
@cleric if you draw on 3ds i could make a drawing this way so you can watch the playback and se how i do it because i know the switch playbacks don't work properly
@Masiel Sorry I missed all of this, thanks so much: next time I do a music/band comic I'll know what I need for this effect!! Honestly, this this is perfect/what I needed for it, but ended up doing way too harsh light.....
