Their backpack is a part of them, and they put things in their backpack through the gaping hole in their chest
I wanted to make an rpg, and make the main character's huge inventory space actually kind of slightly make sense.

Cool, makes sense; and also you're making a RPG??!

@Cleric
Yes I'm going to attempt to make one, I have no story ideas, but I just know I want to make one and like do a bunch of world building for the world it's set in, lol

Sounds fun, are you doing it from absolute scratch or are you using RPG maker!?
You won't NEED a story, but IF you want one; I can help

@Cleric
I'm using a version of rpg maker but I'm gonna make all the sprites myself
01 Aug, 2021, 1:14 am
also yeah, you don't have to, but some ideas would be a great help :)

Sounds fun, to tell you the truth; this is getting me probably overly excited! I used to have a only trial versions of RPG maker, and would always come close to finishing a game, but the trial period would end before I finished!

And what's the story? I wanna help, but don't want to suggest something too far from the theme or feel of the game (for lack of a better word)

This'll be awesome

what if they put themself in the backpack

@Cleric (Sorry for the late reply)
I dunno what the general story is, but I already made lore for the world it's set in though, so I guess I'll attempt to explain that and the history
The world is basically an alternative version of Earth. In late 2O2O, a lot of strange and supernatural things started happening in certain places and locations, they would get really trippy, people would dissapear and reappear, there would be sightings of all sorts of intresting creatures and sometimes portals would momentarily open into wierd looking places. And as time went on more and more of these strange occurances spread throughout the world. It Happened so much so, that the abstract creatures eventually became normal citizens.
These were invisible portals, and they were people's ideas and literal minds seaping into the real world, because the population getting too big and there was nowhere to store people's minds.
(In this world, people's minds are stored in the universe next to it.)

As well as wierd and abstract creatures emerging from the portals, people's ocs and stuff started appearing, so stuff like for example, naturally pink hair and fantasty creatures became normal. But also very one dimentional or very unrealistic people started to exist because of it.
It also caused a lot of issues like people trying to create weapons or very dangerous and powerful characters.
One plus was that extremely intelligent characters emerged too, so technology advanced much, much quicker.
As technology advanced, DNA modification was greatly enhanced by all of the different people and creatures, and it eventually became a normal thing, changing your appearance as if you were an avatar on a game was normal.
This game is set in the future (Around like 23OO or 24OO or something), and at that point in time, other planets were made habitable. Earth was basically made into a place where they store and preserve Earth's wildlife.

The vast amount of portals of minds long since passed away on Earth made the place more like a confusing maze, and much bigger than it actually is, because the portals are invisible and you can walk into one without realising. (The portals of dead people just have repeating terrain).
And, lot of the planets people made habitable have significantly less portals, because the population is heavily controlled, as what usually makes portals appear are new people being born, and older minds being pushed out.
(I hope I explained all that okay.)
I think I wanted it so Engree was an explorer, maybe on Earth, or maybe that his job is to make new planets habitable. idk

(Also, a large majority of my stories are set in this universe, just in different times in the history and maybe even set inside one of the portal worlds)
08 Aug, 2021, 6:36 pm
Whoa, alright: I like the backstory, it's pretty much what people (think they) want and it gets dangerous CRAZY! I can't explain how much I love the metaphysical/mind world theme!

Engree could always be travelling this galaxy in my opinion: if Earth's used mostly to hold wildlife, I imagine Engree could either cleaning up weapons, debris ect left by the portals and/or act as a escort for people going back and forth between planets.
Or Earth could be a "hub world" and the other planets be "missions" Engree's given, and portals could be extra areas or used as "story or subplot scenarios".
Actually there's ALOT of possibilities for this.....!!
08 Aug, 2021, 6:51 pm
@Cleric
I actually really like the idea of Earth being the hub world.
Maybe it could be an RPG that's open world with lot's of side quests and anomalies/planets to explore.
08 Aug, 2021, 6:55 pm
It might be a good way to make the game, since I've always wanted to make a game with lot's of side quests, secrets and big areas
21 Aug, 2021, 4:15 am
I know this is SUPER LATE, but you could also add a "catching" system where Engree's able to keep specific creatures and/or OC in his backpack to help fight or carry objects later

@Cleric
Cool idea!
Also, thank you for helping with ideas, I appriciate it. (:

Speaking of which, I loved that mechanic of collecting photos of creatures and plants in legend of zelda: breath of the wild, so I think it'd be cool to put something like that in the game that I want to make (Haven't worked on it so far though)
27 Aug, 2021, 1:18 pm
....This MIGHT NOT work (especially since I haven't used RPG maker in a LONG time/remember everything you could do...) but it might be possible to assign one item and/or move to be a "camera" or "capture device". If it's possible to replace and re-purpose sprites and portraits, you could make a beastery (Probably butchered that poor word) that would fill up if the player takes the time to use the camera during battle..(? Honeslty, if I still had RPG maker/understooe it more; then this suggestion would make sense in the first place)
And yeah, Breath of the Wild's photo thing was fun; I kinda wanna replay...

@Cleric
might work! When I can use the PC next I'll test out some stuff
27 Aug, 2021, 9:21 pm
I could make it work somehow, by making it so when you use the camera item, goes into a mode where it changes the location to a more 1st person view, the player character sprite is invisible so you can move the camera around with the arrow keys? I'll make it work somehow.
29 Aug, 2021, 3:06 pm
Sounds cool, honestly; didn't know it could do a 1st person view thing! That could be used for alot other stuff, too!
(This is kinda making miss trying to use RPG Maker, wonder if I should try to get it again?)
