Blustering butterflies billow out of the bearded boy(Blake)'s black and blue britches. "No worries," thinks the boy, "I've got no problems other than this, and this is only a problem if I can't learn to love it." The boy walked home that day with his first friends in his new town. The boy slept that night, so deeply that he couldn't even even feel his beard being eaten by the same butterflies he thought were his friends. "Just another thing in life letting me down," he said to nobody, because God wasn't listening. He never listens. He doesn't care. Blake decided, right then and there, that he was going to live by his own rules, whether he thought God would approve or not. He felt free. Free in a way that he had never felt before, like not just one door had opened but THE door had opened. The door to enlightenment, the door escaping betrayal. Blake reached for the door handle and turned it easily, THE door swung open and our godless hero stepped through. Blake was going to be just fine.
