Cool! It seems he's viewing his bank account from a holographic ! Does the story take place in the future or a very advanced society?

@0Pama0 Yes, the story IS set VERY far into the future.
Um, to spoil a little of it: there's narrative at the end of every chapter which is a adventure-log entitled: TIME MACHINE. But I might should edit it so it won't be too obvious?

I also tried to drop hints by having Linta listen in on a history class, which includes Anu ancestors "looking different" than people of now.

Alright, I'll admit it: my hints aren't too subtle. I wanted to do world building through logs--after chapter paragraphs, rather than have a character awkwardly explain something everybody in that world should know. But it's hard... Even now, I'm considering editing everything except the history lesson scene: it's 1 one of the hints that doesn't spoil the whole thing...

@LovEI! That's so funny because I was going to have the readers learn about the world's history through the character's history class.
World building IS hard. You have try to not annoy the readers with placing too much all at once/ shoving it in their face, but not too little to where you acquire White Room Syndrome (look it up! It's when you're story's world feels barren or nonexistent)
So, here are some tips categorized:
- history classes (if your character's go to school, this fits naturally into the plot)
- Have the characters discover files along the way where the reader can stop and read them, or the character simply summaraizes the important parts via aloud or in their thoughts
To explain the other examples, I will be using Detroit Become Human (DBH) and saying what they did!
- PAMPHLETS/ NEWSPAPERS! Omg, DBH utilized this soooo well! Basically, you find a bunch of holographic tablets that tell you about the world. Game-wise, some are them are VERY hard to miss, so in a way, it forces you to learn about the world's lore!
- Dialouge. Two characters can talk about what has happened during a scene while they simply walk somewhere that allows them to talk (in DBH, you constantly hear the characters talking about their lives depending on who you speak to)
- Use your unimportant background characters, because they're important to an extent!:
Depending on your story, but what unimportant background characters may say when they see something or someone tells you about their world a bit more. (in DBH, seeing an android gains a negative attention. Throughout the game, the NPC's mutter under their breaths "f*cking androids..." with digust or start gasping/screaming/yelling if they see an android. If the game never told you from the beginning androids are outcasts, these reactions would tell you. Speaking of background characters, if your character gets harrassed/bullied, make the reason as to why the bullies are bullying them something related to the world.
-News. Have the news channel playing in the background. The tv can be on and the next frame has speech bubbles containing information about what's being reported. Remember, news channels also have details on the bottom of the screen. They're called news tickers, the box that has a bunch of information flashing by about other stuff that isn't being reported about at the moment. (if the tv is playing in the background in a panel where characters are talking, then have the news reporters' words greyed out or on a low opacity if you want to include subtle information.)

-My Sims Kingdom (ahhhh, my childhood!)
I. Love. This. Game! Anyways, throughout this game, they tell you about the world in a story format. The first panels can start off with a bunch of very detailed photos that have captions explain the story. Check out Disney's Sleep Beauty (1959), see how the story starts out as a book? It may be hard to do in comic form, so another example I can suggest is Xeonsoda's "Poika" on Webtoons. Her story starts off with very little dialouge and beautiful imagery to capture the feel of the world without tellig you anything about it. (she also allowing her art to speak for itself).
- you can have your story told in a narrative style, with the character telling a segment of the story after each event unfolds. I don't have an example about this one sorry.
At the end of the end of the day, you may end up using exposition-- meaning you flat out tell the reader upfront as the narrator, in the description of the story, through interacting with your readers if you decide to post a project/ story online, or having a character from the story sit down and explain the world by breaking the fourth wall at anytime in the story. (For example, remember the Simpson's halloween episodes? In the 1990s, they were more careful about what goes on the air, so Marge would come out from behind red curtains and talk to the audience warning them about the upcoming frights. You can do something like that).
**Use exposition sparingly though! Too much and it takes away from the story.

@0Pama0 There's SOOOO many ways to choose from, now that you've put it like that...
-
Maybe using background characters might be best for this then? The story's too serious to have 4th wall-breaks, the plot & main characters certainly won't have time to talk about subjects such as the time period and changes to the enviroment during a war
-
...I wonder if I could start to get rid of some of the "TIME MACHINE" segments all together too; if the plot/dailogue explains everything well enough?...
-
This gave me many ideas, thanks so much! The rest of the explanations will go smoother!

Wait.. except... Alright...
-
I've made it blunt that --time/the stars are what decides on what the Anu will be born as-- But explaining how a.... say.. Capricorn or a Sagittarius (goat fish or literally a centaur person..) would give birth to any non-mamalian creature!!!?
-
I have ideas, but they might sound too freaky? Should I explain it, or make up some new all-in-one process?
07 Feb, 2021, 5:33 pm
@cleric Okay, I see what you mean. The birthing process can be skipped completly if it's irrelavant t your story. If not, don't worry about your ideas being too freaky, it may work with the plot considering you'll have thing like centaurs-- let me remind you, a half-man half-horse hybrid-- strutting/ galloping around.
I never thought about the birthing process for a species, but I have a few ideas.
-Maybe a ritual, or a ceremony that happens to allow the child to be birthed happily and healthy. It can be something along the lines of Avatar's (2009) soul/body transfer. (I'm specifically talking about the Na'vi's way of doing it, not the humans way with the machines)
-A god or goddess sending a mythological creature their child (y'know, like when parents twll their kids the fabled storks story of when the question "where do babies come from?" comes up)
*If you do this, I would recommend looking up Harpy Owls. Admittedly, they're creepy & ancient looking.

@Cleric Oh, I almost forgot to tell ya! I don't know if you use reddit, but there's a really good subreddit simply called r/worldbuilding that I found! It has tips and many inspirational artwork, writing, fictional lore people post! Check it out if you want!

@0Pama0 what a coincidence, I literally only just joined reddit a few days ago! I'mma look! Though, the gods granting childrin sounds good, too!
