"if this really is all ones and zeroes... well, it's the best 1's and 0's i'll ever have!! I wouldn't have it any other way!"
i'm posting this here instead of on my main because it doesn't really pertain to any events happening there but i'm really proud of dirt's climactic speech i just came up with and i wanted to show it
i was in the shower last night and it finally hit me what i want screwball's motivation to be- and what dirt's personality could be like, too

i'm an expert writer i'm gaming
i was thinking that screwball could be self aware and realize he's in a TV (and a video game) so he thinks that dirt's world "isn't real"
and dirt is just hopeful coward boi who fights on even if he's the most scared one in the battle
kinda like the contrast/theme is screwball's brutal nihilism VS. dirt's hope

i wasn't planning on having much of a serious story or having much of a deep intrinsic narrative or anything (because i'm bad at writing dialogue and junk) but this is the hypothetical situation that i DO try and make a compelling story
which i'll probably scrap because it would take away from the fun just all around cheery vibes that i wanted the game to have

Man, I was gonna go the hopeful nieve boy vs the nihlistic madman plotline, but it seems you beat me to it. Don't worry tho, even similar story beats can feel completely different given the characters and situations present. After all, my story doesn't take place in a simulation.
I absolutley love this tho, great job! I feel like this is fleshing out Dirt to be a really compelling character, as well as getting a grip on what Screwball's motives are. You are way ahead of me there.
Sometimes the best ideas come from a nice hot shower, eh?

And don't worry about serious plot getting in the way of cheery happy fun times. The two can actually go together very well. I'd look to Persona 2 as an example. It takes its plot seriously, but it's funny character interractions help balance out the tone.
