hello hello welcome to the first ever eddies album review corner, a reoccurring event which involves me reviewing various albums I have listened to because I want to

But first, some background.

Released on july 4th, 1995, the self titled Foo Fighters debut album was released. Recorded over a span of six days in 1994, the album was completely written and recorded by now Foo Fighters frontman and guitarist Dave Ghrol, save for a single guitar part in the song X-Static by Greg Dulli. Each song on average took about 45 minutes to record and was recorded in the order it appears on the album listing. Ghrol claims that the album was made purely out of enjoyment, and as a way to cope with the death of Nirvana frontman and bandmate Kurt Cobain, whose death occured a little over six months prior to the album being recorded.

In order for Ghrol to keep his anonymity the album had a very very small initial release with only about 100 LPs being pressed and ahout 100 cassettes created. Ghrol passed them around to friends for feedback, where it eventually got passed around and picked up record label interest.

The second single "I'll Stick Around," which is also the second song listed on the album, is what Ghrol considers the strongest song he has ever written.

"...a very negative song about feeling you were violated or deprived... it the strongest song I've ever written, because it was the one song that I actually meant and felt emotionally."

The album's iconography was criticized by some critics. The cover contains a Buck Rogers XZ-38 Disintegrator Pistol over a dull yellowish brown background. (This led to my friends giving it the nickname "the funny gun album") Some critics said it was insensitive considering Kurt Cobain's death by suicide by shooting himself. This however was all coincidental and Ghrol stated it was to fit the band's aesthetic. William Goldsmith, the band's drummer from 1995-1997 commented on this.

"It was all pretty much based on the whole Foo Fighters thing—Roswell, the space stuff, an antique Buck Rogers raygun. It's really a completely separate thing. Dave wasn't even conscious of that."

The album went on to become the second best selling album by the band followed by the band's second venture The Color and the Shape, released in 1997.

FUCKING FINALLY TIME FOR THE REVIEW

I fucking love this album. The fact that Ghrol was able to record almost everything himself in a spam of six days is astonishing to me. The album sounds a bit different compared to later Foo Fighters albums, where I believe their second album The Color and the Shape solidifies their iconic sound. That is not a problem in my opinion however, and I believe is an excellent sounding album for the genre. The final track "Exhausted" is a staticky, sludgy, melancholic song that almost feels like the dying gasps of the grunge genre with the guitar and drums sounds and I think is a great way to end the album. Songs like "Floaty" feels incredibly unique to me with the effects on the vocals. And of course, songs like "For All the Cows" almost has a fucking jazz approach.

Favorite songs:
I'll Stick Around, Floaty, Exhausted
Least favorite (they're still good songs, I just feel that they're the weakest of the album):

For All the Cows, Weenie Beanie

Overall score: 8.75/10

That's it folks. Thanks for reading my ramblings

Writing is fun! The subject of interest does have a lot to do with it.
A lot of subjects I feel often have crappy introductions, which to me seems to help kill interest. :/
(One of the reasons I think so many ppl turn down stem is they don't have good knowledge base of it aha. At least I used to view math with less enthusiasm in highschool. And almost lost interest in science then as well :P
Writing too, but my appreciation for literature has grown and roleplaying has help improve my writing a tone. :)
