If I had to chose to be something other than human, I want to be something ancient and humble. Something that grieves with loss over time but focuses on the blosooming of anew. I want to live a long time, but wouldn't want to suffer through immortality simulaneously

Maybe a banshee? As far as I know, they don't necessarily live forever and certainly DO grieve with/for loss of life...
