They appear to be covered in pins. While the reason is unknown but it is believed to be the creature's regrets as they seem to fall out with time. When all of the pins fall out of the creature they disappear many believe this is the creature finally moving to the after life. A Phaint can take on many forms but they all seem humanoid even though it may have been an animal who becomes one. A Phaint's form can also be anything, as mammalian like phaints have been observed with a reptilian masks. The lantern is very important to the phaint as if it were to ever break and the flame escape it will become a Skaream. Skareams are a malevolent spirit. Skareams appear more monsterous than Phaints and will attack other spirits and while unable to physically harm physical beings they can mentally and emotionally harm them. Upon this transformation into a Skaream they lose all of their pins and the ability to move on. They only fate for them is to one day cease to exist.
