Euterpe snorted angrily like bull ready to pound whatever layed infront of if into the ground.
Having very little of knowledge or magic herself, Euterpe didn't respond to Luxia's comments about powers. She didn't even know what a creature of herself could be capable of.
"Yeah Loopy, I'll temper my way into turning you into a loop myself after this is over." She growled to Stella
(Are we gonna time skip a little for the Plague, not sure if you want to make the next comment for that x'D Oooo yea I'll probably jump skip with Althea too )
(Hmm, maybe we'll timeskip to the Plague group arriving at the village, and Dianne can also arrive there shortly afterwards? Or should we let Dianne encounter them before they get there?)
(I'll do a quick thing with Arc and Gray too, they kinda melted into the void.)
At East Caelum Police Station, Arc was talking earnestly to the chief of police, a grey-haired man with a world-weary look about him. Gray was sitting in a nearby plastic chair, not partaking in the conversation. His body was hunched up with barely-suppressed fear and stress.
'We're investigating the matter as we speak,' the chief was saying. 'I have teams of police officers working alongside several spellcasters to put an end to these portals as soon as possible.'
'But the missing people?' said Arc. 'How are you going to get them back? We can't close all the portals before we've found them!'
'Sir, we have every intention of finding the missing people if we can. However, you have to accept that it may not be possible. According to our research, the portals lead to a highly dangerous realm called The Beyond. It's unlikely that anyone could survive for long in there...'
In the corner, Gray said nothing. His entire demeanour showed how unhappy he was.
(Fun fact: Because Stellarus is both Stella and Dolorus, this entity counts as a pair, which is why I use they. Their personalities seem to have a constructive interference that gives them extra sass.)
Luxia smiled sweetly at the bickering going on behind her. Suddenly, with a burst of tangible power, a large, swirling vortex burst into view. It was green, unlike the black and purple portals appearing around the city. Luxia turned to look at Euterpe and Stellarus.
'Now,' she said, 'this portal will not disappear until I allow it to. So, you can enter, and it will still be here when you get back. Find your friends, and bring them back to the portal to transport them home.'
Stal, Loch, Pyre, Shepherd and of course, Marco, had been travelling across the plains for a while now. After their last conversation, the group had descended into a tense silence. Even Stal didn't bother snapping at the annoying dog anymore. Thankfully, they hadn't been set upon by any monsters, either.
As they drew close to the Argent Mountain Range, Stal slowed a little. 'Hey, isn't that a village over there?' he asked, squinting.
Sure enough, in the distance, they could see silhouetted structures that resembled houses lying in the shadow of one particular mountain.
@Rad Shepherd squinted at the direction Stal had mentioned. "Looks like it." He said s bit excited, tho in doing so he dropped Marco. And without warning, the dog bolted across the field towards the jagged houses.
Euterpe shot Stellarus a mean stare before boldy entering the portal. She was far from happy about all of it, and at the moment was considering on ditching the group once through. //I'll show them//
'Yeah, it's definitely - HEY!' Stal broke off abruptly when he saw Marco dashing away. However, he quickly calmed down. 'Eh, that's fine. The dumb dog can go on ahead. If there's something dangerous, he'll get eaten first.'
As they drew closer, it became clear that that collection of structures was indeed a village. But there were no proper houses; instead, there were small huts made of wood, with thatched straw roofs. There were maybe 15 huts altogether. Even stranger was the wall of flowers growing around the perimeter of the village, like a protective fence. They were greyish-red in colour, and emitted a soft floral scent that only those with a strong sense of smell would be able to detect.
Luxia cackled as Euterpe boldly stepped into the vortex. 'Oohoo, she's brave. And stupid,' the witch muttered. 'She'll probably get her head ripped off by a monster, and then we'll have to go to her funeral and it will be really boring.'
Still muttering indistinctly to herself, she stepped forwards into the portal, following Euterpe.
As Stellarus and Euterpe left this world through Luxia's portal. A group had been watching them from the windows.
Denarius had caught up to the house first and had been observing for awhile now. Though he began to freak out when they started to enter the portal. In a panick he bursts through the window breaking the glass.
Marco barked and ran. Shepherd smacked his head with the palm of his hand and began to dash right after his dog.
The two coincidentally tripped and began tumbling down hill(?). A lott of oofs and ouches could be heard from Shepherd while Marco continue to whine and yelp.
Loch and Pyre immediately began to run after the pair, being careful not to slip on the slight hill that descended into the village.
Stal grumbled incoherently and followed at a much slower pace.
As Shepherd and Marco got close to the wall of flowers that surrounded the village, a pair of dark, humanoid figures emerged from within, wielding primitive-looking spears. They had the scent of werewolves. Peering over the flowers, they stared in amazement at the boy and dog tumbling down the hill. '...Halt!' one of them shouted.
Mason was a short way behind Den, letting the youngster take the lead. Upon hearing the unmistakable sound of shattering glass, he broke into a run, and bounded through the window after Den. The werewolf skidded to a halt when he saw the swirling green vortex.
//I smell the witch's scent... Did she go through that? To search for missing people? So we're too late to request her help...//
As Marco lunged, one of the strangers struck out with the wooden shaft of his spear. It hit the dog in the side, knocking him over.
'Relax; it's just a dog,' said the other man.
'Just a dog?' the first replied incredulously. 'Normal dogs don't exist here.'
While they were talking, Loch ran over to Shepherd. Breathlessly, she grabbed the boy's arm and helped him to his feet. Stal was quite a way behind, but was marching purposefully towards the two strangers.
Mason shifted back to human form. 'The witch's scent trails directly into this vortex,' he said. 'I'm afraid we might be too late to request her help in saving your friend...'
Meanwhile, on the other side of the portal, Luxia was looking around alertly. 'Ahh... Excuse me a moment, Loopy and Stetson. I must attend to something. Don't wander off without me!'
She then began to walk back towards the portal, as if intending to go back through.
@Rad Marco landed to the side, sat up, and made the most unearthly noises a dog could ever make. " AHRAWH AHRAWH AHRAWH AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" He went, the sound carried loud and clear.
After Loch had helped up Shepherd he awkwardness pulled away from her. Out of all of them, he didn't really trust her. The boy came over to the dog to comfort him, ignoring the guards completely. "Shhh shhh, it's ok. Aweee no don't cry."
Stal shot Marco a disgusted look as he passed by, walking right up to the werewolf guards.
'Why's this village here?' he growled. 'I was starting to think there weren't any normal people in this place.'
The guards exchanged uncertain glances. 'If you're not monsters,' one of them said, 'then you must be exiles?'
Stal's expression shifted to surprise. 'What the heII are you talking about?!'
Loch noticed the way Shepherd pulled away from her, seeming uncomfortable in her presence. Her mouth tightened into a thin, tense line, but she said nothing.
Pyre, meanwhile, approached Shepherd and Marco. 'Hey, is he alright?' he asked, concerned by the dog's noises.
@Rad "I don't know, I need to look at his chest- AH hey Marco!" The dog yelped in distress when Shepherd tried to turn him over, and ended up kicking both Pyre and him.
Luxia glanced suspicously at Euterpe. 'No wandering off, Loopy!' she repeated in a warning tone. Then she stepped through the portal to reappear in the mansion's lobby, revealing herself to Den and Mason.
'Hello, hello, I knew you were here. Heard the window break,' she said, by way of greeting. 'Now, how can I help you? You obviously came dashing in here for a reason, so spill the beans.'
Mason had stiffened and jumped back when Luxia appeared, clearly not expecting it.
Pyre hastily scrambled back, not quite trusting the unpredictable dog. 'He seems OK...' he said uncertainly. 'If he was hurt, he wouldn't be moving so much.'
Meanwhile, Stal and Loch were talking to the guards.
'We call this place Lostville,' one guard was explaining. 'Everyone who lives here was once a citizen of Aether, like you. We were exiled here as punishment for the crimes we committed... and those who survived learned to build a new life for themselves here in Beyond...'
'Beyond?' Stal repeated. 'That's what this creepy place is called? That's... really uncreative.'
Denarius perked up when saw the woman and without haste began telling her all about the portals and Althea. "My friend got sucked into one of those vortexes! She's got long sunburst orange hair, pointy ears and bright emerald eyes. Can you help us?" He pleaded.
Luxia slowly went cross-eyed as Den talked. Clearly, the old witch was only half paying attention.
When Den stopped, she snapped out of it. 'Oh, yes, yes, of course,' she said, rubbing her hands together. 'We're going to be saving lots of people in the Beyond, so we can simply add her to our bucket list!'
Mason cleared his throat. 'Madam... Several of my pack members also went missing--'
'I'll find them too!' said Luxia loudly. 'Every single one. Don't you worry about a thing. However, I'm /not/ taking any more people through this portal. So you two just go home and wait, K?'
Loch pushed Stal's wing out of the way so she could get in front of him. 'Wait, so you guys were /exiled/ here? To /this/ place? What the heck did you do, murder children?'
'...Something like that...' one of the guards muttered. Stal let out a huge sigh.
'OK, so we're stuck in a place called Beyond that's full of creepy monsters. Great,' he said. 'Well, /we/ weren't exiled, and we kinda want to get out of here.'
'Can't help you with that,' said the guard. 'None of us have the power to leave Beyond. But we can offer you a place to stay here at Lostville. You'll have food and shelter, and we can protect you from the Voidspawn...'
Loch glanced back at Shepherd and Pyre. 'Hey, you boys even listening?'
