(Actually somewhat serious warning: a lot of these facts touch on sensitive topics, so if you're highly uncomfortable reading about things like child abuse, drugs, mental illness or sui.cide, then you probably shouldn't read these.)

1. Rex didn't have the best start in life; he was the product of an unplanned pregnancy and his young mother didn't want to raise him. Eventually, she ran away, leaving Rex in the care of her own parents. His early years were... decent enough, until the day his grandmother - the only person who'd ever shown him a modicum of kindness - packed her bags and walked out, leaving Rex alone with his grandfather. Who physically and emotionally abused him.

2. As soon as he finished school, he moved in with a long-term acquaintance, Jade Williams. They weren't close, but neither could afford to live alone and Rex would do anything to escape his grandfather's house. They lived together for several years, eventually becoming a couple. Though they were extremely poor, Rex counts this as one of the happiest times of his life.

3. He's suffered depression for most of his life, along with bouts of anxiety and paranoia that sometimes render him unable to go outside for days on end. His methods of coping with his issues are also less than healthy; he usually turns to drugs or alcohol to numb himself. He's also attempted sui.cide at least once, only surviving because vampires are very hard to kill.

4. In his human life, he worked as a maths teacher. He's considering taking up teaching again once he finds a school that's comfortable hiring a vampire.

5. He loves cats. While living with Jade, they had three pet cats - all former strays that they 'adopted'.

6. He's naturally a very friendly and tactile person - or would be under different circumstances. His grandfather beat into him that showing affection or emotion was a sign of weakness. As a result, he tends to be very reserved around others and maintains a careful distance. Though, with close friends who he trusts not to judge him, he can be very affectionate.

7. He used to play acoustic guitar as a hobby, but it's been a while since he practised (he doesn't even own a guitar at this moment).

8. Really good at cue sports/billiards. Probably ends up getting his own pool table at some point.

Poor Rex though, kind of gives me the same vibes of something from Dostoevsky's characters. All very sad people, but very deep and well written.
