This is lore on Dreamer Shape shifting.
Since I'm reworking the Dreamer species to be more like I originally intended them to be and yet try to keep them balanced for other people to use in RP and stuff to were there not over power, I'm update the Dreamer info on some of their abilities.
This one on Dreamer shapeshifting.
Dreamer are know as a shapeshifter species, a Normal Dreamer will have 2 to 3 Alternate forms.

[Where Imagination begins]
A Dreamer fawn can start shifting as soon as their able to toddle around, so about six months is the Earliest but one year is the average.
A Fawn has unlimited shapeshifter ability when it comes to other Creatures, they can change to birds, bugs, fish, Reptiles, amphibians, Animals, etc... even mythical creatures like Griffins, Dragons, Sphinx, Centaur, Pixie, Kitsune, kirin, etc... humans forms, and even humanoid forms like elf, Dorfs, Fairy, beastkin, Kemonomimi etc...
This includes many of my species like the Crystalgem dragons, DaggerWolf, Kittana, Shendobby, Fairfin etc... ( no Renashin can not be one)
(It is possible for Dreamer to have forms form other people worlds but Permission must be ask first )
BIG NOTE:
However there are some things Dreamer can't shape shifted to. Species that are purely evil like Nightmares, vampiricNethersglade, Zombies/Draugr, Ghoul, hell Hounds, etc...
Dreamer also can not shift to inanimate objects, it has to be something that lives.
A Dreamer fawn can learn new forms from different ways, Site and Touch, both have their pros and cons.

[ Dreamer see, Dreamer do!]
A Dreamer fawn can mimick any Creature form that they see, so they see a dog, they would copy that /type/ of dog but not the dog itself, they only copy the type and put their own Dreamer twist to it.
By site a fawn can only copy what they see, so only the Physical appearance of the other creature.
By looking at something a fawn can get ideas for a form not only from physical Creature Present to them but also from pictures and videos.
Example: Iris got her T-Rex form by looking at a dinosaurs book. This can actually lead to some funny but cute looking forms seen the fawn is copying the form they see and don't understand it, and what I mean by that is like Iris, she took a T-rex form, which was a picture of a adult T-rex so her form was like that because she doesn't know what a young T-rex looks like or understand them, however because she herself is young her T-rex form is small and Chubby because Iris herself is small and Chubby.
Note: they do /not/ copy Abilities this way, just the look of the species. Example if they copy a Fire breathing dragon form they would not be able to Breathe fire, they might look like the dragon species be that don't mean they get that species abilities.

[ to know one by touch]
A Dreamer fawn can get a better understand of a Creature if they touch it.
By touching a creature a Dreamer fawn will get a better understanding of how that form works, this understand is more Instinctively like just knowing you can move an arm even though you don't know all the parts in it.
This is why you Typically
see Dreamer fawn touching everything they can get their ribbons on, to try out new forms, and there just a Naturally curious species.
By Touching and understanding that species the Dreamer fawn will shift to the right age of that species to match their own age. for an example, a Dreamer fawn Touches an Adult Venatavis, the Fawn would get a cute fluffy Venatavis ( Lilly species) chickety form instead of a Miniature Adult looking ( meaning fully fathered ) Chubby Venatavis form.
Over time this understand a species by touch can also lead to know a species Natural abilities, not magic!
I'll explain this to.
In my universe I have a Division between species with magic and those without magic, and just because something use elements does not mean it always by magic ( at least in my universe it doesn't)
There are species who use elements by Natural things like organs in their body or using things from nature.
If a Dreamer fawn has understand of a species they could also cope a species Natural abilities, for example some Varieties of Venatavis have Poison in their claws and are able to have a fire breath, this is all done by organs in their bodies not magic.
This level of understanding would mean the Fawn would have to have a desire to know and understand more about this particular species, they have to practice it a lot and likely won't get any of the species ability until their early teens and some even just before their form locked.
Now what happens if a Dreamer fawn shift to a species with magic? Well, all that they copy is that species Appearance and not a single magic ability.
An example: say a Dreamer fawn copy a Zeharu ( Blood species) form, the Dreamer would have a Zeharu appearance but None of the magical abilities, so the Dreamer Zeharu would be a Giant noodle dragging itself along the ground instead of flying though the sky.
(the Zeharu are a high magic base species, their are able to fly is by using magic to do so.)
Dreamer fawn Afton don't take this into consideration, they just see a cool form and shift to what they think is cool, cute, pretty, awesome, etc... you know what kids likes. So you end up seeing Dreamer with forms of magical Creatures but they don't have those creatures ability ( and see things like Giant noodle dragging themself along the ground instead of flying though the sky)
Note: those who have Dreamer have to keep this in mind, Dreamer copy appearance not magic.

So that how Dreamer fawns pick forms, an idea what kind of forms, now let get to when a Fawn can't pick any more forms.
[ the lock down]
As the Dreamer fawn get older they likely will start favoring Certain forms, the more they use those forms the better they are with them but as the Fawn mixture the forms they don't shift to that often get harder and harder to change to and soon they can't at all, only the forms the fawn understand and use the most will be 'locked' and can be used as an adult.
Forms will Typically be locked by the Fawn 14 birthday, that is the Normal, however Dreamer who class becomes Multi shifters forms have been known to lock at age 16.
[On a side note: Dreamer do not pick what class they become, it more Genetic and by the individual Natural talent. Some fawns just favor or are gifted in shape shifting more then other as other are better with elements.
What Abilities the Dreamer has is Usually known by time they in their Middle to late teens and it by those abilities they are classed.]

Now this is were thing get a bit more Technical
After the lock happens, the average Dreamer which would be called a 'Balance'will have 2 to 3 alternate forms. A Balance will have a little bit of ever class, shape shifting, elements and Summoning.
In some cases a Dreamer might only have one alternate form but this means they're more Talented in a different class like elements or Summoning.
A Multi shifter is a Dreamer who Talent is completely Developed into Shape shifting, a Multi shifter can have up to 10 alternate forms but they have no elements or summoning magic.
Then their the mixed class, were a Dreamer only has Abilities from 2 class, like a mixed between Shape shifting and summoning magic, the Individual might have more talent in both these areas but they have nothing in elements. Or other mixed is between Shape shifting and elements but the individual wouldn't have anything in summoning.
Note:
For those who have Dreamer please keep this in mind, if you make a Dreamer Stronger in one area they will be weaker in other, I know it very Tempting to want everything but that just not how the Dreamer are, just because put out a full table to pick from dosen't mean you get everything, you have to pick and be mindful of others and the character themselves, no one likes RP with OP characters and the Dreamer are not meant to be ( at least no any more thanks to Soledormir and the Nightmare Curse )

[ the Beauty of shifting]
When a Dreamer shift forms they glow with a bright light for a moment and then when that moment over that have taken their other form.
This time between shifting only takes a fewer seconds, it painless and is very fast.
In the picture it shows what a shifting Dreamer looks like if you slow down time to get a better look at what happening. The Dreamer body will glow a Bright white and a hue of colors will be on the edge of their Silhouette, this hue will be the color of the Dreamer Heart reflection which is the same color as the light in their Lantern. The Dreamer form will change to their Alternate form and then their done they stop glowing.

[ cost of Forms]
Shifting from take Energy, form that are closer to the Dreamer size take less energy to change to and often Dreamer will have a form that not do far from their true form Heights, length or weight.
Human or humanoid forms are very popular with Dreamer as there not Terribly different in size and a lot of shapeshifter species have humanoid forms that live in the land of dreams.
Very small forms like bugs, frogs, Mice, small birds, etc...will take more energy to change and take a few more seconds to shift back and forth between.
The same is for really big forms like Elephants, some Dragons, Wales etc... the bigger the form the more energy it costs them and time to change.
The other thing Dreamer have to be mindful of when shifting exactly with bigger forms is the toll of Gravity and Pressure, bigger forms mean more gravity pressure on them and if the Dreamer isn't use to that it can tire them out quicker.
If a Dreamer get to Exhausted, they could pass out, Usually an individual will shift back to their true form or one close to it that doesn't cost as much energy if they pass out.

I almost forgot this one
[ their still a Dreamer]
When a Dreamer shift to an Alternate form, that form will always have some of the Dreamer physical traits, eyes will be the same in all forms, hair will be to, if that form has hair that is But besides that the Alternate form will always have at least 2 of the following.
Pearls
Markings
Ribbons
Wings ( what on the Dreamer back)
Clouds
Horns ( not all Dreamer have them )
Ears
An example is Dreamweaver in his human form as markings and Pearls, his great wolf form has pearls, clouds and ribbons.
That is all~

I forgot this to!
It goes with the Dreamer fawn stuff!
A Dreamer fawn would also have to get used to the new form body shape, exactly going from something that walk on 4 legs and then going to something with 2 legs, they would have to learn how to walk and not fall over, the same go with from with wings, they have to learn how to fly.
( that was really rushed xp but I think that all now)

this is a really cool illustration of the shapeshifting process-
good info too, i love the mental image of a bunch of fawns running all over the place touching everything they can find and driving their parents (or whoever's supposed to be watching them) crazy cause there's a kid going in every direction lol
there's something ive been curious about for a little while, that being the color of a dreamer's magic/heart reflection: does the color of it match a color on the dreamer? like chase here has blue magic & blue pearls, catch has blue magic and blue on his pelt-- im probably not wording this well (not even sure how i should word it though)
basically like is there any rhyme or reason to a magic color?
ive long thought about making simon's match his pearl color (red) cause i like doing that kind of thing but im not sure if i should :o
