Scout is based of an american tabby.

2.)
The relationship between Piper and Scout was inspired by a childhood book of mine.
The book was about a little girl who wanted a pony, but obviously couldn't obtain one for various reasons.
At night she would imagine riding a silver dappled horse off into evening sky, and they would go on adventures together.

As for if the lion form of Scout is imagined or really real remains to be seen.

3.) Scout was found and brought home by a few of the family members, Piper likes to drag him around everywhere she goes. That is, if she can find him.

4.) Scout like most cats does not like to be handled and thrown around like a doll. Somehow Piper manages to keep hold on him, but anyone else gets a body full of torn clothes and scratches. :P
Eh it varies on if it was a stranger vs someone in the house.

5.) Scout is not a house cat, but nevertheless the girls don't listen and they bring him in anyway.

6.) One of the reasons why Scout is around is to hunt down the rodents and pests on the farm/ranch (it's more of a ranch tbh) . He's kind of lazy though. :P
7.) He likes to steal spots, jump up on things, and he mrows whenever he wants something from you. This gets him thrown outside generally.

8.) Ever since *redacted*, Piper has been going on about how Scout is actually a brave and fierce warrior who transforms into lion at the stroke of eventide.
This has mostly been chucked up to a little girl's wild imagination.
