@Xeno Shepherd stared off for a moment. After trying some of the food he cleared his throat. "You think so? I still wonder what the doctor might've done if he knew it all."
"Probably nothing good." Growled Euterpe who had already finished her food. "It doesn't matter though, we got you out of there."
@Alkaline {Dianne gives Euterpe a displeased side glance.}
Dianne: “Honestly, he probably would have just put you down for some immunizations and run some tests to make sure you’re healthy. A doctor doesn’t have the authority to deport anyone. The doctor’s job is to help people, not cause them harm.”
A small winged dragon trotted merrily with a sack of things on his back. A cheerful ring came from him as he came down the alleyway. He carried with him an array of stolen groceries from the morning market. In his mouth, he held the morning newspaper. With a hop and a skip, he took off into the air, but only for a brief moment. The dragon did a quick loop in the skies before soaring gracefully through a window of an abandoned one-room apartment. "Tada!" He poised triumphantly though ignored. Althea sat on the couch in the center of the room. The TV was on but she wasn't watching it for she was asleep. Denarius walked over and tossed a load of groceries on her lap which caused her to jolt. "Huh?" She looked at Den then at the things he placed on her. "What a load of junk, produce just keeps getting worse and worse." She mumbled. "That was the best I could find!" Den protested before he dropped the newspaper on her. "Besides I thought you might want to take a look at this."
"Company goes under lawsuit for mis-bottling their wine with pig blood, this woman is outraged. Hey, our prank made the paper!" Althea said jokingly.
Den rolled his eyes. "Not that! The one below it!" "Werewolves break-ins on the rise in Caelum." She raised her brow. "What about them?" "They've been causing trouble lately." Den began as Althea rolled her eyes. "I think we should investigate what they're up to, what if it's something more than-."
"Yeah yeah, they're probably devouring orphans and unwanted children, plus from the looks of it, they're awfully clumsy at keeping their footprints clean." Althea winked at Den.
"Oh no! They're eating children? We have to stop them, such vulgar beasts!" Denarius feathers ruffled, visibly showing his shock and excitement.
"Well, we don't know for sure but it looks like the cops are inadequate at their jobs. Plus they might also be the reason why we haven't had any luck with loot." She jumped up and grabbed her staff. "I don't mind having a little fun, any leads?"
Den nodded. "I witnessed one of the break-ins I think, c'mon I'll show you!"
(I'm wondering if you need one more comment for that or if that's good enough to get things rolling? hmmm also hehe, problem children ready for action.)
Under the city lay a network of tunnels that hardly anyone knew about, for the entrances to them were well-hidden. One such tunnel came up inside a rotting wooden shed in the backyard of a long-abandoned house in East Caelum. Pushing up the wooden board that concealed the entrance, Mason swiftly climbed out, left the shed, and - after a quick glance around to make sure he wasn't being observed - he vaulted over the garden wall and set off down the street. He was holding a copy of the morning paper - identical to the one Den had picked up earlier.
'Carelessness,' he muttered, reading the article about werewolf break-ins as he walked along. 'After all I do to try and keep our work a secret in a place where secrets are /so hard/ to keep, some idiot wolves get spotted and make the papers.'
{Dianne reciprocates Euterpe's odd look before turning back to Shepherd.}
Dianne: "You're very welcome, Shepherd. I know this place must seem very scary and strange to you, so I'm happy to ease those fears. Hey, Euterpe, do you want anything else?"
@Rad Althea and Den make their way towards the scene of the crime. They took a long route full of many twists and turns before coming upon the house that had been robbed. Althea remained out of sight while Den marched over to examine it further.
Althea stood by bored to death, before spotting an old poster with her name and face on it. She grabbed it quickly and stuffed it in her bag as Den came trotting back with a bit more intel. "Well?" She asked. "Not a lot to go off on other than that werewolves are smelly." "Can you track him?" Althea asked. Den thought for a moment. "Maybe but it'll be harder if he has already turned back. It might be better to wait till nightfall if we want to do a real good search." "What about the underground? Lots of nasty work happens down there." Althea suggested.
"I guess that's worth a shot...but hey wait up!" He called. Althea had started moving before Den could even finish his thought.
Mason was on his way to a local cafe, which was where he spent most of his mornings. He usually spent his days pretending to be a normal citizen, walking around town and acting like anyone else... until night came. The dead of night was when his pack gathered in their underground base and discussed what they were going to try stealing next. Most of Caelum's townsfolk simply thought Mason was normal - a rich young man who spent his time browsing the local shops, drinking tea and doing good deeds.
//Until the facade falls apart because of some pack members' carelessness,// he thought darkly, folding the paper into his pocket and continuing on down the street. //Perhaps if I show everyone this article tonight, they'll realise how stupid they've been acting lately.//
Dianne: "Of course you can. You people have crossed an entire ocean without a decent meal. I can't let you go around being malnourished."
{She then turns to Shepherd.}
Dianne: "Alright, if that's what you need to do. If I were you, I'd be thinking about getting a job. You'll need a roof over your head to live comfortably."
(Random infodump: Even though Mason is known to be the leader of a large pack, very few suspect him of being involved with the werewolf crimes just because he seems like a friendly, polite, do-gooder type. ...Then at night, he turns into a wolf and runs around with his pack stealing stuff. XD But he's never been caught, and nobody who's seen him at night has connected the big scary wolf with the mild-mannered Mason.)
(A lot of his packmates have come under suspicion and some have even been arrested before, but nobody knows Mason is the one leading all the criminal wolves, because he seems so normal. XD I also imagine that the police in Caelum are just... not that great sometimes.)
@Rad Althea and den continued there search underground. The came to the entrance of an abandoned train tunnel. Den stared down the dark tunnel and shuddered while Althea walked in without fear. As they traveled they light only got dimmer, and what light that did make it in acme through small cracks and drain pipes. The morning sun easily caught on to Althea's bright orange hair as she walked through.
The walk was quiet, yet they both couldn't help but feel on edge. You never know what might jump out from a dark corner.
As Althea and Den set foot into the abandoned train tunnel, a shadowed figure standing near the entrance silently observed them. He was a werewolf, albeit not shifted. Den wouldn't have noticed his scent since werewolves had barely any distinct smell in human form.
As the duo disappeared into the darkness, he flipped open his cellphone and called Mason. 'Hey, M,' he said softly. 'There's some young lady and a weird-looking dragon going into the train tunnel that leads to one of our hideout entrances. They don't look like cops. What shall I do?'
A pause, then Mason replied, 'Follow them. In human form. Advise them that the tunnel is dangerous and they should leave. Also try to find out why they're there, if you can.'
With a noise of acknowledgment, the werewolf ended the call. He then hurried after Den and Althea.
'Hey, kids,' he called out gruffly, his voice echoing down the tunnel. 'You shouldn't go in there. It's not safe. Nobody's done any maintenence in years.'
Althea turned to face where the voice was coming from. She frowned and folded her arms defiantly. Den moved in closer to Althea and whispered something to her looking rather worried. She waved her hand at him reassuring before addressing the man.
"We can handle ourselves." She sneered rather annoyed that he referred to them as 'kids'. //Oh so because I'm short it makes a child huh? Who is this guy anyway.//
The werewolf, whose name was Terry, snorted with amusement and moved a step closer. He leaned against the wall of the tunnel, folding his arms casually. 'I just wanted to warn you. People have been hurt trying to get through these old tunnels before. Why are you so insistent on coming in here, anyway? Seems a bit suspicious, two kids like you sneaking around abandoned places...'
@Rad A smirked grew on her face and she also took a step towards the man. "I could say the same for you." She pulled out her staff and pointed right at him. "You look pretty shady yourself, stalking a young girl, how long have you been trailing us? No one comes down here unless it's a dirty business."
Terry eyed the staff, then fell back a step or two, raising his hands in surrender. '...You're up to something,' he said. 'You just said it yourself; nobody would come to a place like this unless they're doing something shady. You--'
Before he could continue, a piercing wolf's howl came from the other end of the train tunnel, echoing off the walls. Terry knew exactly who it was, but he quickly put on a shocked expression.
'Hey! That was a shifted werewolf! Probably one of those werewolf criminals from the news. You feel like staying down here and getting ripped to shreds?'
@Rad Den backed up wildly and flapped his wings at the sound. Althea pressed something on her staff and a sharp blade appeared on the end of it. "Funny you should say that. But I'm just getting started." Althea backflipped a good long distance away from the man. "Den!" She shouted, signaling him to jump to action.
Den nodded and opened his mouth revealing a bright ball of energy that he blasted towards the ground in front of Terry. A large bright flashed lasted for only but a moment and after that, they were gone. What remained in front of the man were a few flames but they were small odd and easy to step over.
Terry jumped back instinctively from the energy flash, throwing up an arm to shield his eyes. When he next looked up, there was no sign of Althea or Den. 'Where'd they go?' he muttered, gazing around wildly. After a moment's deliberation, he shifted into beast form and started trotting up the train tunnel. Maybe they had run up here while he'd been momentarily distracted by the light. //I mean, where else could they have gone?//
Althea and Den made there way up ahead. Though they stopped where they thought was about half to where they heard the werewolf cry. Being small and light Althea jumped up towards the ceiling of the tunnel. Holding herself up between the boards on the top of the tunnel where she wouldn't be seen.
Den had a harder time finding a place to hide, he trotted around frantically finding the darkest most obscure corner in the area, not the best spot but better than nothing. Althea gave him a thumbs up reassuring him that she had a plan. Though he couldn't help but feel a bit nervous.
Terry continued to make his way along the train tunnel in beast form, following the faint unfamiliar scent that he guessed must be the duo. His heart was thudding in his chest from a mixture of worry and adrenaline. //What will we do if they find the entrance to our hideout? Explain what we're up to and that we're not really bad people? Yeah, like they'd believe that...//
While Althea and Den were hiding, another werewolf came padding down the tunnel from the opposite direction - it was the one who'd howled earlier. She paused around the place where Den was hiding, sniffing the air suspiciously, trying to pinpoint where he and Althea were. With her sharp senses, it probably wouldn't take long.
@ Althea signalled to Den and the dragon advanced towards the werewolf. Ball of energy shot forth from his mouth straight towards the werewolf's face. Den carefully eyed the beast from distance. His wings out ready to leap into the air if needed.
Meanwhile Althea dropped from the ceiling hopping to knock the wolf from behind with the sharp end of her staff.
The werewolf - we'll call her Linda - yelped and stumbled clumsily sideways to avoid the energy ball. She had no idea whether it was harmful or not, but it hurt her eyes if nothing else. Snarling, she sprung forwards and pounced at Den, attempting to tackle him to the ground before he could fire any more energy balls at her. The quick forward leap caused her to unintentionally dodge Althea's staff blow coming from behind.
While all of this was happening, Terry came charging up the tunnel with a growl of warning. Seeing Linda engaged in a fight with the duo, he skidded to a halt and just watched. //Oh no, oh no, this is bad,// he fretted. //We're not supposed to hurt people, how are we going to stop them?//
@Rad A cry came from Den and he bared his teeth showing long white fangs. His eyes glowed and energy started to seep forth from his mouth. With an attempt to break free he kicked at Linda's stomach and lunged forward to sink his hot chompers into her neck.
Missing the werewolf, Althea quickly tumbled forward with fast reflexes. She landed in front of Terry and held out her staff defensively. "So there's more of theses rats huh? Hope you like this kitty." She pulled out a dart and shot it at Terry. //Hopefully that'll balance things.//
Linda hissed in pain at the neck bite, but grimly hung on despite Den's struggling, using her superior physical strength to pull the dragon's jaws off her neck and force him to the ground, putting her front paws on his back to hold him down.
Terry yelped as the dart hit him in the shoulder. He swiftly struck at it with a paw, knocking it away. //Was that poisoned? Am I going to die now?// he thought, panicking a little as he started to back away from Althea.
While still trying to restrain Den, Linda lifted her head and gave a short howl. It was a signal, a call for other pack members to come and aid them.
(I'm having a hard time loading this room on my DS now, and it's getting kinda late here, so I think that'll be my last post for tonight! Also, welcome back Xeno. XD)
@Rad A seethe of anger came surging through. Nothing made her riled up than seeing Den get beaten. "Great how about you shut up!" Althea shot several more poison darts at Linda and raced over to whack the beast across the face with her spear.
{Dianne walks away for a moment, telling the cook to make Euterpe another salad and disappearing into the back of the building. Returning quickly, Dianne puts a map of Aether on the table.}
Dianne: "Right now, we're here." {She says, pointing at East Caelum.} Dianne: "If you want to leave, there are plenty of exits in the south. However, it's all flat plains and farmlands out there."
(uhh I'm not sure, something that'll mess with their senses, make the dizzy blur their vision and sense of smell etc. Probably isn't fatal, unless you get a big dose of it. I haven't quite fleshed out their power sets so a lot of this is experimental ufuyuuutf.)
A sharp cry came from Linda as a few of the darts sunk into her, followed swiftly by a hard blow across the face. She quickly let go of Den and sprung backwards, shaking her head as blood trickled from her nose.
It seemed that Althea and Den had the werewolves beaten, but then it became clear they weren't alone. A dozen heavy paws could be heard in the distance, rapidly getting closer. Although they weren't visible yet, it sounded like at least three more werewolves were running up the tunnel.
Behind Althea, Terry shifted to human form so he could speak. Panting for breath, he leaned against the tunnel wall for support. 'Just please leave,' he said. 'I know it might be hard to believe, but none of us want to hurt anyone. We just want you out of here. Either you leave of your own free will, or we'll remove you by force.'

Althea signalled to Den and the dragon advanced towards the werewolf.

A cry came from Den and he bared his teeth showing long white fangs.

XD)

A seethe of anger came surging through. Nothing made her riled up than seeing Den get beaten. "Great how about you shut up!" Althea shot several more poison darts at Linda and raced over to whack the beast across the face with her spear.

Dianne: "Uuuuuhhhh....Hold on..."
{Dianne walks away for a moment, telling the cook to make Euterpe another salad and disappearing into the back of the building. Returning quickly, Dianne puts a map of Aether on the table.}
Dianne: "Right now, we're here."
{She says, pointing at East Caelum.}
Dianne: "If you want to leave, there are plenty of exits in the south. However, it's all flat plains and farmlands out there."

(That reminds me, I have a half-finished map of Aether that I need to finish and post somewhere so you can all see it. XD)

(yes! :D
that'll be a good thing to see)
01 Mar, 2020, 1:10 am
(Also @Alk, what kind of poison is on those darts? Just so I know how I'm supposed to be making the wolves react to it. XD)
01 Mar, 2020, 1:19 am
(uhh I'm not sure, something that'll mess with their senses, make the dizzy blur their vision and sense of smell etc.
Probably isn't fatal, unless you get a big dose of it.
I haven't quite fleshed out their power sets so a lot of this is experimental ufuyuuutf.)

(Alrighty! I thought it might be something like that. That works well.)

@Alk
