Null Zones by Crowley the Dragon

I don't feel like explaining extensive magic lore, but here's a quick simple thing I thought might be fun to write about.

A Null Zone is a magical force-field that can be created by certain powerful sorcerers. While inside them, nobody can perform magic (including the person who raised them in the first place - this is an unfortunate side effect that sorcerers are still working to find a solution to).

They're like 'safe areas' designed to simultaneously protect the caster from incoming magic attacks and disable an opponent's ability to use magic. Magic can't pass through the middle of them, meaning if you stand on one side and your opponent stands on the other, you can't hit each other with spells.

Null Zones only affect magic that requires conscious thought to activate. This means they have no effect on things like a vampire's high strength or healing abilities, which are automatic - but they do prevent spellcasting, shapeshifting, telepathy, and anything else that requires a person's will to happen.

Once planted, they will remain in place until either the original creator dies, or any powerful enough sorcerer (including, but not limited to, the creator) uses another spell to remove them. It's possible to come across zones that have been sitting around for decades, abandoned or forgotten by their creators.

Null Zones also aren't affected by changes in terrain around them, so it's not unusual to see one seemingly floating high above the ground because the ground used to be higher up, but was eroded/destroyed/dug away over time.

Null Zones vary in size, and can technically be anywhere from the size of a closet, to being big enough to cover an entire town. However, as would be expected, larger ones tend to be more difficult to create.

There are few people capable of creating these force-fields; it takes a lot of practice, concentration, and raw magical power - the likes of which almost nobody has. The actual /method/ of creating one is similar to the way other spells in my stories are cast, but I don't feel like going into detail with that yet (it's all a big WIP anyway).

(Done!)

this is cool, magic cancellations are always fun, especially when used on op heavy magic reliant charas. x'D

also for some reason, it reminds me of that driver's ed song they made us listen to called 'no zones'
