The Unfeeling by Crowley the Dragon

Really quick ref for a monster species I created a few years back (first used in a story I only posted on DA).

There will never be characters of this species, since they're pure monsters and not even fully sentient.

The Unfeeling, as their name suggests, are unable to feel emotions of their own, but they're very good at reading the emotions of their opponents - and they use this ability to their advantage during fights.

ABILITIES
The Unfeeling have the ability to accurately sense the emotions of any sentient creature they're focused on. Their markings change colour to reflect that creature's emotions. The Unfeeling use this power to their advantage in fights, as it helps them to better predict how an opponent might behave, how much of a threat they are, etc.

They are quick and agile fighters, incapable of flight but able to hover for brief moments. They usually attack prey in swarms. Their default method of attack is to gradually weaken their opponent by darting in to deliver fast strikes with their teeth or front claws, slowing their opponent down before finally moving in for the kill.

They seem to be able to see despite not having eyes - either that, or their other senses are good enough to manage without.

BEHAVIOUR
The Unfeeling have no emotions. They are driven almost solely by hunger.

When hungry, they will viciously attack any living creature that enters their range. They will eat any kind of meat, so anything they can kill is considered prey. If, after engaging in combat, they determine that their chosen prey is too strong to overcome, they'll swiftly scatter and retreat.

The Unfeeling don't speak, cannot be reasoned with, and don't seem to communicate with each other in any complex way. However, their instinct is to stay together, so they are nearly always seen in large groups.

MARKING COLOURS
The Unfeelings' marking colours reflect their opponents' moods, usually focusing on the emotion that person is feeling most strongly. They are also capable of making a gradient effect if the person is feeling two emotions equally, but this rarely lasts long as one emotion will usually outweigh the other.

Purple - Fear/anxiety
Red - Anger/frustration
Orange - Determination/confidence
Yellow - Happiness/excitement
Blue - Sorrow/grief
Dark green - Disgust/revulsion
Light green - Curiosity
Pink - Amusement/mischievousness
Brown - Hopelessness
White - Shock/panic
Grey - Emptiness; a lack of any strong emotion. When Unfeeling are among their own kind, their markings will turn grey since they themselves don't have emotions.

Extra note: for any emotions not mentioned on that list, their markings usually flicker through a confused spectrum of colours or just settle on grey.
