Genetics Study by Alkaline
Been wanting to do this for awhile!
Almost didn't add notes, (they mostly just demonstrate my thought process, errr vaguely. That is if you can read them pfff)
The face is one of the most important parts of a character design imo. We as a species are extremely good at recognizing another's features. So it's important that you practice giving your characters each a unique face! Don't be afraid to 'ugly' (wrinkles, folds, whatever the heck) features. They make looking at ppl interesting! :)
I find it easier to define a chara when I draw them a lot. So that's why we have fam
I also tend to use photo references of actors/celeb/models whenever I'm drawing ppl to help get a better idea of what I actually want my chara to look like.
My goal for this particular piece was to try to really understand the skin make up of my chara, while also trying to pin point certain shapes and things that might carry over to the offspring. :0
I don't know if it's quite a success but at least I gave a good try lol. I sure enjoy analyzing them. (As always haha)

Edit 2: YES IK HOW GENES WORK, -this wasn't meant to be a science study you goofs lol. (And I don't know where you got the claim that I'm assuming they have to work this way, no, it's more of a choice of design.)
But I digress, ty for your facts! I'm sure they'll punch me later. As I like to keep tabs on knowledge.

Hmm, cool. genetics are always interesting. Yeah, looking at Harper, she looks like the offspring of these two people.

sometimes a kiddo doesnt resemble their parents much and instead strongly resemble some other section of the family tree.
my older brother and i are very clearly siblings but my oldest brother not so much.
genetics are fun...-

This is so neat!! I too based my characters off of actors/actresses to help me learn the anatomy and what i want them to look like x) I like the idea of a genetics study! This is interesting!

Ooooh I love that! It's really cool to see her parents features and how they carry over to her. I need to reference irl faces more often >:/
