Takeo was born in a small village deep within the jungles of an unknown land. He lived a sheltered life away from the dangers of that world. Still, this didn't keep him safe from tragedy, as he came down with a life-threatening disease at a young age. The villagers tried all they knew to cure him, but to no avail. The boy's illness was deemed incurable. However, just when everyone thought Takeo would succumb to his sickness, a strange man visited the village.
No one trusted him, yet when he saw the predicament Takeo was in, he pitied the boy, and voiced a proposal.
Among his goods, he had something that could ward off disease, and potentially save the boy's life--a mask depicting the
face of a grinning, green and gold dragon.

The villagers were all skeptical of this, but certain members of Takeo's family had been desperate to cure him for some time.
And so, on the outskirts of the village, they accepted the mask and tried giving it to Takeo--and it worked. Almost immediately, he was free from his disease.

However, the villagers quickly discovered what they had done and went into an uproar. The mystery man immediately fled, and
Takeo's family was forced into hiding.
It was soon very apparent to them that the mask had more to it. Within a week, Takeo had sprouted feathers along
his head, arms, and tail, and small, red spikes lined his spine. His scales spread across his skin rampantly, and rings of gold surrounded his eyes as well. On top of this, whenever someone would try to separate the boy and the mask, his disease would return in full force.

So Takeo lived his life bound to the mask and away from civilization. As he grew older, he learned of more magical abilities the mask granted him, such as it changing his
reptile form into a dragon form. Now he searches for the truth behind the mask--while more importantly, searching for a real, permanent cure for his illness.

:The Mask:
Takeo's mask grants him multiple abilities, such as the ability to heal others with his own energy, and manipulate some earth and air elemental magic. (He's not very skilled with this yet.) The patterns on the horns glow green or white when Takeo's using magic, whether he's wearing the mask or in his dragon form.
As said in his story, when he's not in physical contact with the mask, he'll get sick very quickly. The mask has its own ways of attaching itself to him, mainly those vines dangling from it, which can grow and retract. If he's not wearing it on his face, it'll stick itself to his arms, shoulder, or even his tail sometimes.
And yes, it will actually move itself to get to Takeo if he's nearby. (Rather slowly.)

:Takeo:
Takeo has one ability of his own that has stayed true since day one. He can change the color of his scales, skin, and now even his feathers. Even after everything, he's a bubbly, happy kid. He can be a little on the shy side, but will open up pretty quickly if shown a bit of kindness. He's got a childlike naivety to him, and might end up sticking his nose into situations he shouldn't, thanks to curiosity.
He'd rather not get into conflict, though. He has very little experience in battle and even less in arguments.
Also. Takeo has freckles on his shoulders as well. They just aren't visible here.
