Despite there having been a sudden surge of them, hopefully it's alright if I say a girl. I'm not great at drawing male characters yet, otherwise, I'd probably say male. :P Either smooth or plated scales. I always get intimidated by scales, I know I could draw smooth, but I think I'm maybe capable of drawing plated too, so really whichever would look nicer with the color palette or your design ideas.

As for the color palette, I was looking at a picture earlier and I really liked the colors of the sky/background. I think they could look nice in a design, but I'm not sure how to describe them correctly. I did try to get the link though and I'll put it in this comment, but if it doesn't work let me know, I can come up with something else. Lastly, for the gemstones, maybe a soft yellow or orange?
