[ Treasury full of gems]

The Crystalgem dragons are a very colorful species and come in a wide range of colors, that because they are as colorful as gemstones.
some are as colorful as Ammolite or have Pattern like Agate, some are Solid colors but as beautiful as a pure Topaz.

Something all Crystalgem dragons have in common is, if the individual is healthy their scale will be shiny or sparkly.

The world that the Crystalgem dragons come from in itself is a very colorful place, Crystal and gemstones of every color are everywhere, most of their plant life are look more like Coral or Metal. The Oceans of Gemehstedy are colorful like oil and the sky reflects this effect making it colorful at all times of the day and night. Because everything else is so colorful and shiny the Crystalgem dragons blend right in.

Crystalgem dragons come in so many different colors and elements and it doesn't matter on Region, its because of this they do not Label their Varian's on color or elements like other species but instead what their scale type is.

There are 3 Variety of Scale types Place, chainmail, and smooth and with each of these types have their own classification.

[ Fancy dinner where ]

Plated scales:

Full Plates (just like the Orange guy on the left )

A full Plated scale are the most uncommon of the scale types but its pretty common to see a mixed of plates and the other two scales Types together.
Out of the scale plates are the most armor with the highest defense of the Crystalgems, their scale are thick making them also the biggest of the Variety, because of them have such heavy armor the Plated Variety are the most Physically strongest but this heavy armor come at the cost of losing speed and Mobility, they're heavy armor make the plated scale the slowest of the Crystalgems.

On the battlefield Plated scale are the tanks of the Crystalgems dragons, exactly if they are Wearing crafted armor on top of their already armor scales, they are Literally walls and a very Intimidating force, making the plated one of the most feared in battle.

-

Because the plated scale are Typically slow moving they don't waste a lot of energy because of this its common for a plated scale to only eat 3 full meals in a week time, if there more activit they could eat more or smaller amounts though out the week. But just because there Physically slow doesn't mean there minds are.

Crystalgem dragons are all Intelligent but some of the sharpest minds have been the plated variety, they are often Wonderful crafters, Architecture like houses, Palaces, bridges etc...armor and weapon design, Some of the greatest inventions have been made by plated scale.

There are a few different styles of Plated scale, want Determines what style they are has a lot to do with what the Individuals parents had and the Region their egg was incubated.

the orange guy here is a 'Polished plate' the plates are smooth and shiny like finely polished stones. The polish plates can be seen in any Region but is more likely rough areas.

Then there the 'Rough edge' this would look closer to Crocodile or Alligator plates but much bigger, but its that rough bumpy look. The rough edge can be seen in Region like rocky mountain, rocky Wastelands, deep cave, volcanic, and Swamps.

The rarest is the 'Crystal Fortress' this is were the dragon plates are like Crystal armor. The Crystal Fortress can only be hatch in deep caves and volcanic Region.

The mixed plates, this is the most common of the Crystalgems, this is were an Individual well have some plates but not fully and will have one of the other scale variety mixed with them ( the black and white girl in the middle is a plated and chainmail mix) often times these Individuals have more Armor then the Chainmail and smooth scale but less then full plates, they Typically have more speed and mobile then a full plate and Require more food then a full plate.

[ scale, LOT OF SCALE!]

Chainmail scales:

A full Chainmail is the Rarest of the scale types and can come from every Region, however It is the most common to see mixed with the other scale types ( like the black and white girl here, she a mixed between chainmail and plates )

Chainmail is Medium size scale,
It has both Durability and maneuverability, it's the middle ground of the 3 scale types, it less armor then plated but more armor than smooth. Less speed then smooth but more then plated.

Chainmail scales are more active than plated scale and use more energy, they Typically will eat one full meal a day.

Because they are the middle of the 3 Variety of Crystalgem dragons scale they can be seen in every Environment and work filled.

-

There are a few different kinds of Chainmail looks.

The 'Diamondbacks' this is were the scale are diamond shape. There scale are side by side Tightly.
Most commonly known to come from Dryer regions.

The 'Raindrops' this is were the scale have a raindrop shape to them, however on the dragon they overlap so all you see is the bottom oval shape but if the scale were to come off it really looks like a Raindrop shape.
Mostly commonly know to come from Moister regions.

The 'Scallop' this is very Similar to the Raindrops but the bottom edge is not smooth, its roughly ( the black and white girls bottom scale are this )
Most commonly known to come from colder regions.

the 'eggshell' this is were the scale have a oval shape to them and are much like the Diamondbacks were they don't overlap but are side by side.
It the most common in every Region.

[ shiny and sleek ]

Smooth scale:

Its just how it sounds, the scale are very smooth and give in almost skin look to them.

The smooth scale have the most flexibility of the scale types but they are the weakest in armor.

Full smooth scale are the most common to see out of scale Variety, but are the most uncommon of mixed between the others.

This Variety is typically very active and eat the most, usually a couple times a day however unlike the other Varieties who eat a full meal they usually do not, they eat smaller amounts and never eat their full.

As a quotes from Ricky ticky taffy in the Jungle Book. ' A full mongoose, is a slow mongoose'

The smooth scale have the same view, so most do not eat a full meal as their Mobility is their strongest physical feature
-

There are a few kinds of smooth scale types.
The 'shimmering gleam' this is were the scale are so Teeny tiny and fine that they look like Specs of glitter, if the light hits them just right there scale shimmer. This variety be has the hardest Scales of the smooth scale types. ( it still isn't much for Armor)

Can be seen in any Region.
The 'Quick line' this is the fastest of all the Crystalgem dragons Types. There very fine scale are smooth and also has tiny grooves in the that all go in the same direction, these smooth grooves Streamline the Dragon much like a mako shark hide dose.
Out of the types they burn the most energy and have the lowest Endurance but have the greatest speed.

Are mostly seen in areas with wide range.

The 'Mud scales' their scale are not actually mud they get the name because they are the Squashes and is the closest to skin, their hid is more like Geckos for rough
or Salamander for smooth.
Mud scale have the weakest Armor but are the most Sensitive to their environment.

They are mostly know to come from Moisture climates.

[ mix and match]

The most common is to see Dragons with a mixture of Scales types and there can be a ton of different combinations.

Whatever is the most dominant scale feature on the Individual is what they be called (most the time)

For example: the girl in the middle would be called chainmail more then plated scale.

What Determines the Scale types is what in their bloodline. If both parents were plated scale then their offspring will /likely/ also be plated but not always.

say a grandparent was a mixed scale its possible for the grandchildren to have mixed scales to but the chances are less likely with the less mixed bloodlines with other scale types.

[ The diamond in the rough]

Crystalgem dragons are known for their Beautiful gemstone's on their bodies, the amount varies but everyone will have a gemstone on the top of their head, on their chest, on their four paws and on the tip of their tail.

These gemstones are Crucial for a Crystalgem dragon life, they are similar to Oregon's and each holds a different function.
Head:
The gemstones on the head is vital, this gemstones Allows the Crystalgem to Control their magic, much like the brain is for controlling body functions.

Chest:
The gemstone on the Center the chest, is the core and were the most magic is at. this gemstones works much like a heart pumping magic though the body.

Four paws:
The gemstones on the four paws are the best for absorbing magic, all the Crystalgem dragons have to do is walk and they suck up the earth magic under their paws.

TAIL:
The Tail is the most sensitive to magic, as the Crystalgem dragon walks they will slowly sway their tails back and forth, this might not look like much other than just normal body movement when walking but what they actually doing is using their tails like a Metal detector but instead their looking for earth magic.

Crystalgem dragons can have other gemstones on their bodies and can be in all different locations, on their sides, back, neck, underbelly, Shoulders, knees, elbows, face, wings ect...

These gemstones are usually used for Absorbing, storage, Recycling, and repurposing magic

[ part of that world~]

I have some very unusual species and the Crystalgem are one of them, they look like Typical dragons with just gemstones on them but what they are is not your normal kind of dragons.

So What is a Crystalgem dragon?

I have to explain a little about my universe to get to that...

In my universe I have a theme and that is for both worlds and creatures there are those with magic and without magic. In my universe There is a /Massive difference/ between the two and how one effect the other. This go all the way down to the foundation of everything in my universe involving Skey and my species tide to it.

I have worlds in class.

-

None: Is without magic

Low: has tiny bit of magic but not much to even amount to anything but its still there.

Below average: enough magic to at least say something there and can do a little bit.

Average: have an average amount of magic.

Above average: has a lot amount of magic.

High: has a great amount of magic.

Highest: has a massive amount of magic.

-

I have many species that go to each of these groups and each has there Pros and cons.

In my Original story I had 10 main words, 5 with no or very little magic and 5 with magic or very high in magic.

Each one of these 10 worlds had a species that represents them and had a /theme/ that made them a part of the grander plot of how things work in my universe.
Dreamer and Vaseterm are 2 of the 5 from world's with high magic and are ones with special theme in the Order of my universe. the Crystalgem are also one of these species that represents something.

The Crystalgem dragons can be class as high or in some cases highest. There a dragon species that is extremely sensitive and Reliant on magic, the best way to Describe them would be that their more similar to plants.

Example:
Air is everywhere, every living thing needs air to survive but most the time we forget that until something remains use, like running out of breath or feeling the wind on our skin.
Magic is like this in my universe, what called 'wild magic' it's the magic in it's rawness form without any elements, it's pretty much everywhere but often not though of because unlike air many species don't need it to survive exactly one who don't use magic.

What is more known is the elemental magic, magic that holds an element Property. You know the ones Fire magic, water magic, Earth magic, air magic, etc...

Crystalgem dragons need magic to live, its like air to them, they can feel it, tested it, smell it and in some cases see it.

Crystalgem dragons are very Sensitive to magic, They absorb elements magic in their Environment and store this energy into their gemstones in order to survive, but just like plants Take in carbon dioxide and Produce oxygen the Crystalgem do something similar, they take in elemental magic and output wild magic back into the Environment.

This Connection with magic makes the Crystalgem dragons Crucial to their world 'Gemehstedy'
In Sustaining its high magic Concentration.

Being in worlds with magic makes for a healthy Crystalgem dragon, A healthy Crystalgem dragon will have shimmering gemstones full of magic energy in them, their scale will be Beautiful like Polish gemstones, their eyes will be bright and full of life. A healthy Crystalgem is a beautiful site to see, like a living Treasure.

However in worlds with little or no magic in them can be quite dangerous to a Crystalgem dragon, their body's natural take in magic just like plants with air but without any magic to take in the Crystalgem will start to suffocate and over time parts of their bodies will start shutting down.

Their body will be trying to take magic from the Environment and get nothing or very little but at the same time their body would still be trying to output wild magic, this can have many different effects on both the Crystalgem dragon and the environment.

Having a world without magic and then having magic put into it can have so, so /many/ different effects ( at least in my universe, like I said earlier the difference between the two are Huge and in my universe has its effects...)

in some worlds it can be like a Foreign disease that be let loose, it could cause mutations in that world and people, triggers Bizarre phenomenon, Terraforming, just to name a few, It's not always bad things ether, in some cases good can come from Introducing magic to Non magic worlds, the effects can be vastly different depen On the world and the magic exposed to them.
At the same time the same can go with the Crystalgem dragons, putting them into a world without magic would weaken their immune system, this makes them easier to pick up Disease and illness.

Unhealthy Crystalgem dragon will have dull looking gemstones from the lack of magic, their scale will be faded in color, their eyes will lose their bright look and they might even change colors and become dull.

A Crystalgem dragon can run off the magic they have stored in their gemstones for short time but Eventually they need to recharge them with magic or they will get sick.

But that not only thing different about their gemstones.

[ how do you like your eggs?]

Crystalgem dragons are a high magic base species, all Crystalgem have Earth magic in them but they usually have another element.

When a Crystalgem dragon Egg is laid it is completely clear but as the baby develops its absorbing 'magic' and 'Minerals' from what surrounding the egg.

[ making a shimmering gleam Omelet]

the egg will get color depending on what it takes in from the Minerals, The eggshell will eventually look like a gemstone. Whatever color the eggshell is will be the same color as the baby dragon gemstones.

[ better with a Side dish]

The Parents of the egg will have many things that give off magic elements in their nesting chamber for their egg to absorb, The more magical elements the better because the parents won't know what the egg wants until it starts favoriting one of the magical element that in the nesting chamber. to keep the egg healthy the parents will then continue to bring that magical element for their egg to absorb.
This is how the Crystalgem dragons get their other elements and the color of their gemstones, by absorbing magic and Minerals.

A fun fact with the Crystalgem dragons is The magic element will be the same color as their gemstones.

An example: Crimson egg absorb Minerals and magic from the land of dreams, giving him blue fire.

This little oddity makes the Crystalgem dragons use of magic a bit different then my other dragon, Unlike some of my other species were there appearance reflect what elements they have, like a blue dragon will likely have water or air magic the Crystalgem dragons do not, this is why you seen some were there colors are the opposite of their elements.

Blue fire, Pink water, green Electricity, white darkness, the Combinations go on, and on

This doesn't mean that there isn't any normal element colors, there are! Red fire, blue water, green plants etc....are still very much seen within the Crystalgem dragons

[ a new skin]

Crystalgem dragons shed their hid. Similar to Snakes as they shed their skin all at once instead of like a lizards that falls off in pieces at a time, but its still different then a snake shed, Crystalgem dragons scale when shedding will become harder and crystallized making a crystal shell of the dragon when shed.

This Process of shedding takes about two weeks.

the first week: the Crystalgem dragons Appetite will increase as their body getting ready for the shedding process, in this time if they already don't have a Private shedding area they will look or make one. The individual will lay out in dirt that rich in magic As time passes their scale will begin to harden and start to be more like gemstones.

The Second week:
By this time the Crystalgem dragon would start to fast and not have anything to eat until after their skin has been sheded. They tend to get a little moody During this time, they haven't eaten and their scales are uncomfortable, they feel itchy and heavy that makes it harder for them to move. To deal with some of the uncomfort the Crystalgem will cover themselves in magic rich dirt.

Towards the end of the process the individual will get a crystal coding over their eyes that makes it harder for them to see and have to really on their other Senses.

The final stage: the Crystalgem dragon is completely immobilized do to their old hid has completely turned to gemstones and they are completely blind, the individual is only like this for about an hour.

the dragon then breaks out of their old skin much like a Butterfly coming out of a Chrysalis.

At first the Crystalgem dragon new scale are clear and soft but they soon will Harden and gain their color again as they absorb the magic in the Chamber they had prepared to shed in.

The after effect:
The individual will want to do a few things after breaking free of their old skin, eat and drink and roll in the rich magic dirt.

The new scales will be bright colored and have a shine or shimmer to them.

-
Crystalgem dragons use
The shell of their old skin for many things, their old shell still holds wild magic in them, they will use their old skin as a kind of magic Fertilizer, over time their shell will make the area around them rich with magic.

One places their shell are used in is their shedding chamber to recycle their magic.
Parents will also use their shell in their nesting chamber for their eggs and Hatchlings to absorb the magic.

They will also put parts their shells in Areas that might be low in magic, to Cultivate the land with something that magic can grow from.

A healthy Adults will shed their skin twice in a year.

Children are a little different and I'll do them in their own lore.

[ the difference between male and female]

Male: Bull or boar

Male Crystalgem dragons are call Bulls or boars depending on who you ask.

Males are bigger in size then the females and have more Muscle mass. They have bigger Chests/ upper Torso then females do. Male do more digging than then females and are capable of Heavier lifting. They have bigger lungs and heart then females do given them a Physical a vantage.

Male will have bigger horns on top their head then females. In the way of the old They will use their horns to Spar with one another in a show of Physical strength.

Another male feature is the Jaw, Males will either have the following:

A Hook: a Single spike on the Chen.
( an examples is #SPCrimson )

Ridges: spikes that follow the jawline
( example is #SPZitan)

Cut's: deep indent on the chen
(example is #SPking and the Oregon boy here )

It is possible for males to have a mixed of these, #SPBlackhole has both a hook and Ridges

-

Female: dame or sow

Female Crystalgem dragons are called dames or sows depending on who you ask.

they are smaller and Sleeker in size and shape then males. They have smaller Chests but wider hips then males do, they have wider hips because females are the only ones who lay eggs. Female back legs are also much stronger than their front legs, they used their back legs to cover their egg with dirt but also to kick off for for running.

Females have small horns on top their head. They don't really Fight with them and are more for show females do tend to put Jewelry on their horns for that reason.

Female do not have bold chen Features like males do. Their Facial features are more feminine, Female Will usually have darker markings around the edges of their eyes that give them a eyeliner look and some female even have the 'cat eye' look ( makeup term ) around their eyes that males do not have.

[The stages of life ]

(I'll do a more In depth lore on this, this is just a small bite)

Egg: Treasure.

A Crystalgem dragon egg is called a treasure. To them their young is a treasure, a Precious gift.

A Crystalgem egg also looks like a big gemstones.

-

Infant : Hatchlings

Hatchlings are baby Crystalgem dragons that just hatched, they will be called hatchlings until they reach 4 years old.

The hatchlings will be born with no teeth and have to eat mushy food, they will get their baby teeth by one year old.

A healthy Hatchling will shed ones every month. It takes less time to shed their shed shell then an Adults, its also is soft and more like skin.

-

Young: whelps

Whelps is a young Crystalgem dragon between the ages of 5 to 15

This is the time they start learning about their abilities. Flying and magic.

By the age of 12 they will start losing their baby teeth and grow in their Adults teeth.

A healthy Whelp will shed ever 4 to 6 weeks depending on growth spurts.

Their shed skin is much tougher then when they were a baby.

-

Teens: fledglings

fledglings is a Crystalgem dragon when they reach 16 and they be called that until their 25 and at 26 they are then called Adults.

A healthy fledgling will shed ones every 4 to 12 weeks depending on growth spurts.

There shed skin is more closer to being a shell the older they are, their body is changing from a child to an adult and this is the age that they tend to be the most grumpy when shedding.

-

Crystalgem dragons are a little bit slower then human on Metering.

A 5 year old Crystalgem would be more like a 3 year old child.

( this is why Crimson looks a little younger than what his human age is, because he still a dragon who ages slowly)

Crystalgem dragons Average life span is 10,000 years.

( that is all for this lore post and there a lot more to come )
