your new images are really close to the edges, maybe drawn too big?
well, you say this is from reference, so you should be able to define the top first, the bottom second , and then mark where the sides are , this rough silhouette with more or less correct proportions is needed for composition, so you can figure out the complete layout in early stage, to position the drawing nicely in the canvas. So to guarantee it will fit the canvas work on rough proportions first, before adding details. Good luck :P
