Scared... by DeadlyVenus

WARNING: Vent

I feel really lost. I feel like my imagination is gone. I can’t do anything creative artistically wise and it’s honestly making me really... sad? Idk but I don’t like this feeling of emptiness. It feels so hollow in a place where I had so many ideas that my brain would think up thoughts faster then I could write them down. I’ve experienced art block but it’s never been like this...it’s never been to the point where I can’t even bring myself to draw without feeling scared that I’ll just disappoint myself with whatever I’m about to attempt to draw. I’m scared that it’ll stay this way....that I’ll never go back to normal and that I won’t be able to draw anything without thinking that I’m failing every step of the way.
I just don’t know. I’ll probably still post but don’t expect anything good like I did before. I might take a break and go to DeviantArt for a bit again.

I’m sorry I just needed to get my thoughts out.. I just really wanted to say something that I’ve been trying to keep to myself for awhile.

That my friend, sounds like burnout. Don't worry it doesnt feel like it but like artblocks it *will* go away eventually. Just try to taks a break from drwwing and focus on the writing part of your art, that's what helps/helped me.

Satisfying your creative needs is never easy, a problem that will always need solutions.
It never stops, the need to create more and do better. While it can help you strive and push you farther than ever before, it can also lead to a pit of despair.
It's hard to stay afloat in that situation, and those fears are so real sometimes....
All too real.
My suggestion to this fix this problem, or what helps me is I watch what others do. I pick apart their process, the contents. It doesn't have to be just in drawings. Any and all information is good and necessary to build upon your neverending creative structure. I don't just use others to find my ideas though, whenever I'm out in the daily world, I always try to keep my creative mindset alive. Looking at different things, whether the study be subconscious or conscious I'm always looking for a new way.
Perhaps look at it like this, the world is full of ideas, little hidden nuances. I make it my job to find these hidden gems, applying to different pieces of the puzzle when seen fit.
Sometimes the pieces change, sometimes my mood changes. And that's ok! But don't let it hold you back from progress for too long.
Take a break, think, look at what others did, ask questions, don't leave those questions open ended! Find the answer or make one.

Ofcourse it's a process, a process sometimes takes time. But remember relaxed study is just as important to do as a hard study.
Something isn't working out too well? Try again it's ok.
Draw light loose and relaxed. Sometimes push yourself and sometimes let it go.
There's always a chance to do better, but how can you get better if you never start?
Heh sometimes a world can explode with the simplest of ideas. :)
Another thing others artists like to do, is they draw woth prompts or themes. This help keeps them drawing while not having to worry too much about making something out of nothing.
Fanart is good to do sometimes, as well as other drawing challenges. Draw this in your style, photo studies, extreme expressions are amazing and hilarious.
Don't worry too too much about making things look "great". Sometimes we just have to accept the mistakes, if you never fail you never learn.

I hope you get through it soon!

Same drawings at first always look crappy but don't bring yourself down. You have to keep going to make what your thinking about

have to agree with everyone else, especially with it being burnout. artblock happens, and it sucks, but burnout is way worse. in my experience, if there are no ideas, then accept that there are no ideas. you don't have to create constantly. that artistic mind of yours needs rest sometimes, and a lot of the time it's not something you can try to power through. hell i recently had a day where i let my own personal burnout get to me so bad i almost quit drawing right then and there. a few days later and i've got sketches for new projects ready. yeah it might take you more than a few days, might take weeks or months, but honestly that's just what happens. it's valid to feel lost, it's valid to feel frustrated, but it's not valid to let those feelings take over. it'll blow through one of these days. artistic growth is a big repeating loop, your eye and your skills improve at different speeds, and if there's one thing i know about anyone's eye to their own work, it's that that eye is a bitch. slap that bitch in the face and give yourself a bit of space.

Hey, I get it, lack of motivation suckkkss, especially when you feel like everything you draw doesn't turn out. I recommend just taking a break if you need to. You don't have to constantly make art and none of us will be upset if you don't want to post for a bit. I find sketching random/different things (like things out of your comfort zone) or trying different mediums for a bit (like sculpting) can help big time. I know how annoying and frusterating it can be to not be able to create, but just know creativity, motivation, and ideas will come back eventually, and there's no shame in having problems drawing for a bit, we all go through it. If you feel better going to DA and drawing more there, then that's perfectly fine, whatever works best for you. Take your time to relax a bit and it'll get better eventually- Until then, we're all here for you fam <3

I have had this same problems before, I think everyone does, it a terrible feeling but does and will go away, I don't know how long it'll last, but it'll be over with before you know. Don't stress about it and force yourself to draw, its good to take a break from it completely, when you come back it's like a fresh new look on things and afterwards, for me, it usually leads to improvements. Just don't rush it and take as much time as you need
