so i dont really remember the start or specific things very well, but the overall storyline seemed to be pretty much smashing the fourth wall to smithereens
it seems the characters became at least somewhat self aware of what they were and what kind of world they were apart of (fictional characters, games) and also found that if they tried to act "out of character" compared to how they usually did, they found they would eventually be erased by what is essentially whoever plays and controls the game world
there were characters who didnt care if this could happen, and other characters who were absolutely terrified of this and out of fear got into conflict with the others, basically forcing them to /not/ act ooc and thus developing no real individuality past their coding i guess it's called

i distinctly remember mario was leading the group of characters who wanted individuality/chose to be ooc, while sonic led the opposing group

and uh.. the whole dream was pretty vague to be honest, i only remember this one scene which is where ive sorta figured out everything from
there was this weird glitchy city place that seemed to be slowly falling apart, mario was there seemingly all alone, and seemingly looking for someone/smth, and then sonic quite literally drops in from atop a fallen building and homing attacks mario
the two started fighting while the entire time they both tried to sway eachother to their respective sides and also beat the cr.ap outta eachother with sly insults (mostly sonic did this)
eventually, sonic managed to beat mario and sent him flying off a cliff, but mario managed to get himself back up to prevent certain death
sonic stopped attacking mario and instead threw a torn up yoshi plush at him; mario caught it a bit awkwardly and stared at it
and sonic started prattling on about how, even if there werent any dangers to being "ooc", there's nothing to gain from it, it's pointless, [cont.]

and he basically delivered the message of "there's no point in being your own person" without even realizing the gravity of what he said
and it seems yoshi might have died or smth earlier on judging from the fact mario's reaction to all this, plus having the yoshi plush, was to outright just

sonic was kinda surprised and confused to see this,
and then he got sucker punched in the face by hECKIN METAL SONIC
who seems to be a part of the "ooc" team
metal sonic relentlessly beat the c r a p outta sonic, but sonic managed to get the drop on him and pretty much spiked him off the cliff mario nearly fell down earlier
seemingly, the energy that shoots up when someone's ko'd, well, shoots up, indicating metal may have jus died or was at least knocked out while falling
buuut then that was apparently from metal getting a smash ball, because he flies back up and proceeds to unleash a big ol / l a s e r / from his chest at sonic, pretty much injuring him to the point he cant fight anymore[cont

metal seemed to have intentions to kill sonic, but stopped himself and instead went and helped him up
there was a bit of a tense silence between them before mario spoke up and explained his viewing of being "ooc", which i dont remember all that well what he said exactly but the basic message was "people change as time goes on and as they learn new things, forcing them to be one thing is one of the worst things you could do to that person mentally"
after that, sonic decided to change his ways and help the "ooc" group out, realizing how much of an i d i o t he was
aaaaand the city they were in, cliff included, started glitching and collapsing into this giant glitchy rockslide
metal ended up grabbing sonic and mario and flying off away from the city

and then, after that, i woke up
SO UH YEAH
