"For visual effect! Wouldn't it be better to have an explanation AND pictures?"
"Hm... I suppose you've got a point. Did you draw them?"
"Yeah! Did I do good?"
"Hey! You two are live RIGHT NOW! Get started with the thing!"
"Oh jeez! Uh..." Fiona awkwardly paused, then waved, "Hey there! My name's Fiona, that's my uncle Boreas, and we're gonna tell you some stuff about Elementals! ...Well, you might already know it, and you might not..."
Boreas nodded, "Either way, it'll be reiterated for your convenience."
"Anyways, let's get started..." Boreas muttered, elbowing the blackboard, "Core Elementals are a species believed to be made up completely of magic. There are /loads/ of different types of Elementals, but the four most known around Crestlydora are Water, Air, Earth, and Fire. Each variety serves a unique purpose and has plenty of qualities that make them different from the rest. First things first, though. I'm going to cover some of what they all have in common...
We're called 'Core Elementals' because we all have Cores, which are typically located in the upper chest area. There are some exceptions to this...
An Elemental's Core works like a heart. It produces and sends out magic that an Elemental needs to sustain themselves and their form, use their abilities, etc. It's even the Elemental's mind--it does everything a brain would do. Some even believe the Core contains an Elemental's soul. ...Whether that's true or not, you get the idea; it's the 'core' part of us that does everything. Though, we still have to eat and sleep. Can't expect your engine to run on nothing.
The magic of a Core is extremely complex, which is why people still haven't completely figured it out to this day. It's practically the only vital part of an Elemental's body. But don't get me wrong, it's always nice to /have/ a body...
If an Elemental's body sustains too much damage, they'll either be forced to, or will willingly retreat to their Core. When an Elemental is in their core, they're still conscious, but stuck in sort of a limbo. So long as there's no damage to the Core, the Elemental will eventually be able to heal up and regenerate themselves--or go into their Core Form if they're impatient..."
"Core Forms are like a mini, glowy version of ourselves!" Fiona suddenly interrupted. "...Why do we even have that? It seems kinda weird..." Boreas just shrugged, "Mmhm, it is a little strange. I'm not too sure myself, but I know in that form, an Elemental's inner magic is most outwardly present...
Speaking of magic, every type of Elemental has an ability to sense the stuff. Whether it be magic given off by something, or environmental magic, every one of us can tell when it's around. However, the skill with either type of magic really depends on the type of Elemental..."
After finishing, Boreas glanced to his niece, which made her gasp, "You're giving me a look... Is that my cue?!"
Boreas gave her a thumbs up, "...Yup, that's your cue, kid."
Fiona beamed at that, "AWESOME! Now I get to talk about the different kinds of Elementals! You guys already know, Boreas and I are both Air Elementals! Well, he's a hybrid, and I'm not, but THAT DOESN'T MATTER...
Air Elementals are the second most common kind of Elemental in Crestlydora--we're ALL OVER THE PLACE! You can always tell when you see one of us, because we can float, and we've got cloud hair! We're most well known for our weather sensitivity and manipulation, though. We kind of have a natural tendency to want to group up with others... That's mostly with our own kind, but I know we can group up with other creatures in the same way! It's probably one of the reasons I got attached to the Keyhunters a little quicker than anyone else would... Groups of our own kind are usually called 'colonies,' and they're where the big, powerful storms and stuff come from! Oh, and Air Elementals are resistant to the things that come with those storms, too...
Air Elementals are pretty sensitive to magic in general, so they can sense both types pretty well... Oh yeah! And our cores look like stars!"
"So... Why did you start with the /second/ most common kind first?" Boreas questioned.
Fiona paused, then glanced around nervously, "...Because Air Elementals are cool...?"
Boreas folded his arms, "Fair enough... I can't say I disagree... But on the other hand, you're showing a lot of marshmallow bias."
Fiona's eyes widened, "What?! No! I'm not biased! All Elementals are cool! And you /know/ we're not marshmallows!"
"Alright, then how about you tell everyone about those other cool Elementals?" Boreas suggested with a slight chuckle.
"Okay, okay! I was getting to that, but I'll hurry up." Fiona frowned, but only for a moment, "Next is the /actual/ most common kind of Elemental! Water Elementals! They look like they're made of... Well... Water! They also have fins and sometimes gills. They're sorta like... See-through fish people! They can purify water, manipulate currents, breathe both in air and underwater, and swim really well... And using water around them, they can also shapeshift, which is SUPER cool, and a thing that Air Elementals can't do! Water Elementals build huge, impressive underwater cities and usually live by certain hierarchy-like systems. Some of 'em can be kinda harsh and judgmental... But it always depends on who's in charge.
Their cores kinda look like... A bunch of shiny, glowy bubble-sphere things all connected by a plant... Thing."
"It's like pearls or bubbles, linked together with seaweed." Boreas clarified.
"Yeah, THAT!" Fiona exclaimed, nodding rapidly, "Water Elementals aren't very sensitive to magic, but they aren't bad at sensing it either... They're a lot better at sensing stuff with the environment, though.
Hey, that's kind of a nice place to end... Because the third most common kind of Elementals are Earth Elementals! Those guys are super tough, and actually have a lot of unique appearances... Some are more rock-y, others are more plant-y... It just depends on where they're from, I guess. Earth Elementals can purify the land, manipulate plants and the earth, and even cause crazy plant growth or shifts in the land. If you see any weird lookin' trees or formations in the earth, it's probably them! The thing they're really known for though, is their territorial instinct! They don't usually get together in large groups in one place, but instead like to split areas into territories, only ever getting called together by the Elemental Lord in charge. It's still sort of a group? People call 'em Tribes.
Earth Elemental cores take on the look of plants or rocks, again, depending on where they come from! Both types have root-vein things coming from them, though. Their core is actually located somewhere on the outside of their bodies, but it blends in with everything! ...It's gotta feel kinda weird to have your core on the outside...
Earth Elementals are /really/ sensitive to the environment, but can barely sense magic.
OKAY! JUST ONE MORE!
Fire Elementals! They're the least common around Crestlydora, but that doesn't mean they don't leave a big impact! I'm not talking about explosions, either, even though they do cause those sometimes and they're SUPER AWESOME to watch!! ...Ahem--anyways, you can always tell when you see a Fire Elemental, because they have tails and FIRE HAIR. They can control and breathe flames, and have openings or certain spots around their bodies that vent their fire. Their internal temperature /kinda/ dictates their strength, but they have to be careful to not overheat... Fire Elementals group together in small Tribes. Sometimes Tribes living near each other get really competitive and end up forging rivalries! So, yeah... Don't get in the middle of a brawl between rival tribes. Watch from a distance!
Oh yeah! This doesn't seem out of the ordinary to us, but I know it might be kinda weird to you guys... Fire Elementals from the Land of Dreams normally have blue or purple fire! Red, orange, and other colors are more uncommon around here.
Fire Elemental cores look like gemstones with fiery lava-veins flowing through them--they're actually pretty resilient, too!
Fire Elementals are also super sensitive to magic, but can't really sense anything with the environment--even though they're pretty good at changing it...
Aaaand that's all!" Fiona finally finished, taking a deep breath and letting it out.
Boreas gave his niece a congratulatory pat on the back, "Yup! You did a great job Fi. ...Like I said, there are still loads of other kinds of Elementals. We covered the /basics/ and just a few facts on the most common four on one continent... There's a lot more, even things we don't know. But for now, that's all folks! If you want to know more, you're going to have to ask someone other than us! ...Or you could ask us, but that'd only be possible in a RP, because we've been told to withhold information here!"
Fiona beamed, "YEAAAAAH! Wait... What was that last part?"
But before he answered anything, Boreas already gave a salute and was now heading out of the room, "My work here is done. So long, people of Colors!"
"Wait--WAIT! Where are you going?!" Fiona questioned, watching as her uncle left. "...Uh... Well... I hope you guys had fun hearing about Elementals, because it was really fun to talk about! See you guys next time!
...Boreas! Wait for me! I wanna know what we're withholding!!"
...To clarify what he was saying... Feel free to ask questions about Core Elementals in the comments! They just likely won't be answered here! They'll be answered in other lore posts in the future, and there's even the possibility that some questions might get answered in the RP! If anyone's actually interested and wants to ask, that is.
I just google names and cycle through probably 1-2 hundred names, testing them out and seeing if they fit.
I don't really have a specific idea in mind for foliage, I just kinda let people's imaginations run with it. But the leaves of some of the ground level plants would have a similar look to their frills. I'm even thinking of making a whole forest for them to thrive in.
I'm not too picky about that though
He can camouflage and darken his appearance to pretty much fully black. Allowing him to hide in the shadows. If he were to say, travel through a barren desert, his appearance would pale and his markings would fade to help him blend in. His body would naturally alter itself to blend into other environments. Nothing too drastic, think -almost- chameleon. Just glancing him, you probably wouldn't see him unless his eyes were open/he was moving/his vents were open or you had a sharp eye. And he'd also have to remember to close his vents if he wants to stay better hidden, though they do glow white. So he could play it off as sunlight reflecting on a surface (ex: ice in bright sunlight).
Azalea is kinda the only one kinda hooped, she's got pink markings that don't do much to help her :'D
They are nature variants and can thrive in almost any environment. It's usually volcanic or frigid areas they avoid though. Because the cold would cause their skin to hard and frostbite easily. And the volcanic areas are filled with Xanos with hot tempers and even hotter fire.
Nature variants tend to avoid conflict, the main reason being, they're the smallest Xanos. They also have thin and light scales that are more designed to withstand thorns and branches poking them. Not large claws and teeth tearing into them.
Not saying they're useless in a fight, they are the fastest Xanos and all Xanos have their bellies as a weak point. Nature variants could tear their little claws through that flesh, but would struggle to rip through, someone like Thunder's, scales. But they could also tear up Thunder's sensitive sails.
Nature variants, on all fours, go from 6ft to 14ft tall. While most Xanos, at minimum, are 20ft tall.

This was so much fun to read!! :D I really enjoyed this lore and learned more about Core Elemental!
11 Jul, 2019, 5:39 pm
Oh, I do have a question: will there ever be any Elemental adopts or giveaways? X'D
Or just art in general, the Elementals sound soo interesting to see, I'd love to see what the other types actually look like~
Haha, of course, you don't have to push yourself to draw them and stress yourself out 'XD
I really enjoyed reading this lore too~

Thanks guys! X3
^I can answer that question here...
Yeah! There definitely will be! It might take me a little bit, though. XP
